Actually, I almost always type the desired website in the address bar. This time, dunno why, I typed it into the search bar in the middle of the screen.

Happened to me once not long ago. I believe it was one of those pseudo news sites with Republican in their name. It’s embedded malware in the site. Closing the browser didn’t work, had to reboot.

Microsoft does NOT do malware scanning that involves pop ups. Their support number is public. What you’re seeing is what is known as malvertising. Microsoft will NEVER connect to your PC.

I cleaned my computer cache (IE files; Internet "history No more needed to be said. IE has long ago ceased to be a safe, much less good, browser. Install Vivaldi or Firefox.
