Actually, I almost always type the desired website in the address bar. This time, dunno why, I typed it into the search bar in the middle of the screen.
Dunno why I did it like that. Distracted I guess. But I’ll stick to my former protocol for sure, now.

Happened to me once not long ago. I believe it was one of those pseudo news sites with Republican in their name. It’s embedded malware in the site. Closing the browser didn’t work, had to reboot.

Yeah, I understand. Always best to enter direct link if you know it. 🙂
That’s what happens when you don’t extend your car warranty.

There’s no malware, just a browser head-fake to make you think there is so you’ll do something dumb.
Never do that.
Microsoft does NOT do malware scanning that involves pop ups. Their support number is public. What you’re seeing is what is known as malvertising. Microsoft will NEVER connect to your PC.
No more needed to be said. IE has long ago ceased to be a safe, much less good, browser. Install Vivaldi or Firefox.
