When I was in high school I had a friend whose family was Armenian (he was born in America). Of course, that was almost 60 years ago. I think about him whenever I read about what’s happening to his ancestral home.

My wife is Armenian but was technically born in a historically Armenian territory of Soviet Azerbaijan. She was rescued from the Azeris in 1987/1988 along with her whole family (by the Soviet army). Regular Azeri citizens were going around and indiscriminately killing Armenians.

Lots of reasons and excuses, but it comes down to the fact that Lenin drew bad national lines on purpose (gave ethnic territories to the wrong country in order to have ready-made ethnic instability on-demand).

It’s Russia’s sphere of influence.

Let them deal with these cutthroats.

“The last time China could claim any control over Taiwan was 130 years ago.”

This isn’t true - the ROC retreated to Taiwan in August 1949 leaving the PRC communists on the mainland. This means that China proper under the ROC had a recognized claim over Taiwan from 1945 to 1949 after the Japanese surrender....

In addition the ROC was the recognized Chinese government by the UN until 1971.

So it’s 84 years since China was recognized as in control, and 52 years since the ROC was no longer recognized by the international community as China proper.

The 130 is referring to when the Japanese seized it from the Republic of Formosa in 1895 following the Qing dynasty’s cession of the island earlier in the same year.

Similar thing with me, I was in an internment camp with a Lithuanian girl that I hooked up with, in Washington D.C. and it has always made my ears perk up when I hear Lithuania in the news.

The question is whether he is desperate enough in wanting to take the heat off his crime family that he would get us into a war with Russia.

Diabolically clever, if true. (I didn't know that).

And, Churchill marked up the MidEast and produced similar results because he was in a hurry. I remember reading that after WW I, he carved up the Ottoman empire's territory on a map in an afternoon.

That's what happened to the Kurds. They were told they'd get their own country, Kurdistan, but their hoped-for land got split between Turkey and Iraq.

I’m not sure if this is a universally accepted fact (the intention, at least), but I know many educated people who subscribe to the idea.

Nagorno-Karabakh,Azerbaijan...Biden thinks getting involved in WWIII, for places that 98% of Americans never heard of will allow him to cancel the election.

Not sure how the OP expects the US to wade into the Caucasus and compel a different outcome.

Does he expect the Turks, the Russians, or the Iranians to provide us a base to intervene from, or is OP just unfamiliar with geography?

Scary thought, but plausible.
