Bad advice.

No, but in cases as yours. If near carnivore diet is best for all, I think God would have prioritized it, but the evidence indicates the Israelites ate a lot of bread as a staple (and not simply because the word translated bread usually is. The Lord Jesus Himself did not just multiply fish, but provided bread, and which was prescribed for the last supper (which was a meal).

In What Did the Ancient Israelites Eat?, Nathan MacDonald provides some interesting and thought-provoking answers... “The staple food for ancient Israel was bread, as indeed it was for her ancient Near Eastern neighbors and the rest of the Mediterranean world” - https://www.biblestudywithrandy.com/2021/06/the-israelite-diet-what-did-the-ancient-israelites-eat/
Using both written and archaeological data,...conclusions about the food and drink in ancient Israel have been made with some confidence from this evidence.[1][3]... The ancient Israelites depended on bread, wine and oil as the basic dietary staples[9] and this trio is often mentioned in the Bible (for example, Deut 7:13 and 2 Kings 18:32) and in other texts, such as the Samaria and Arad ostraca.[10] Written and archaeological evidence indicate that the diet also included other products from plants, trees and animals. Seven basic agricultural products, called the Seven Species, are listed in the Bible: wheat, barley, figs, grapes, olives, pomegranates, and dates (Deut 8:8).[4] The daily diet of the ordinary ancient Israelite was mainly one of bread, cooked grains, and legumes. Bread was eaten with every meal. Vegetables played a smaller, but significant role in the diet. Legumes and vegetables were typically eaten in stews. The Israelites drank goat and sheep’s milk when it was available in the spring and summer, and ate butter and cheese. Honey, both from bees and date honey, was also eaten. Figs and grapes were the fruits most commonly eaten, while dates, pomegranates, and other fruits and nuts were eaten more occasionally. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Israelite_cuisine
We almost all eat roughly equivalent amounts of protein when eating freely.

Too general a statement, since body weights differ much, while even as a percentage then i think that can vary significantly (fish eaters versus junk food diets).

Having done yo-yo diets for 45 years following US government advice to go “Low Fat”, going “Low Carb” has literally been life changing..I don’t think people who have never been very fat understand that it really is NOT just “calorie in / calorie out”. I’ve dieted down to starvation levels without my body converting fat to energy so I know it happens. And I know keto and fasting have changed that. Not prayer. ,,, If your body’s hormones have gotten badly out of whack, cutting calories will NOT get rid of the fat without also getting rid of a lot of muscle.

In your case that may be best, but not for all, at least not permanently https://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2023/keto-its-probably-not-right-for-you/.

I can gain weight very easily, and do not like to feel bloated, and at about 5.4'' I have not weighed more than approx. 130lbs or less for about 50 years, and usually stay active at 71, thank God, and I do pray to stay lean (size 29 waist).

Eating incorrectly has NOTHING to do with CHOOSING to wear a large, pink, down-filled comforter as a fashion statement.

The Israelites probably weren’t fat. Certainly not due to eating too much, too often, all thru childhood. That is part of my point: Don’t take diet advice from someone who has never been obese, unless you haven’t been obese. What works for those of us with out of whack hormones (insulin resistance) is different from how our bodies were intended to work.

Protein: Left on their own, people will eat 15-20% of their diet as protein. That leaves 80-85% to be divided between carbs and fat. That is the ONLY option: It MUST be one of those three, they must add up to 100%, and no one eats 50% protein. So, be it 15, 20 or even 25% protein, the large majority of our diets will be carb or fat. Cut down on fat as you suggest, and we are all left eating high carb diets. The math allows for no other options.

As for harvard.edu: one might as well get information about Christianity from the NY Times as get info on nutrition from Harvard. Seriously? They are just a mouthpiece for the government, pushing the bad advice (eat lots of meals, cut the fat) that GOT many of us obese. If you ask Harvard about transsexual issues, or homosexuality, what they will tell you will have nothing to do with reality and certainly not in synch with Christianity.

Liars lie, and they often lie about everything! Harvard lies about “women with penises” and they lie about nutrition.

And the idea that Keto or even carnivore isn’t sustainable simply does not match reality. Too many of us alive now doing it.

I’m glad you haven’t spent your life fighting fat. I majored in Biology and married a nurse. My mom fed me a diet based on cookies, so I got very fat as a teen. I then spent the next 45 years fighting it the way the “science” and “doctors” said to, using low fat diets and “calories in/calories out”. It wasn’t until I read about the growing evidence for Keto, and then tried it, that I was freed from a near lifetime (15-60 years old) of fighting fat and instead simply living a life with much of my fat gone and the rest SLOWLY disappearing.

I now live on perhaps 60% of the calories I used to eat, but I didn’t cut calories. I changed WHAT I ate, lost weight, and THEN started eating less. The decline in calories FOLLOWED my weight loss, so it could not have caused it. But Harvard will never accept what I just wrote. Even though I lived it so I know what happened to me!

BTW - my sister never ate the cookies I did, never got fat, and has never had to struggle with weight. Her body works the way ours all ought to, with fat acting as an energy reservoir: Add some on a day when you eat a bit too much, and pull it out on a day when you eat too little. And carbs / fat / protein aren’t an issue for her because she never became obese.

I’ve bounced between 120-190 most of my life. Mostly between 140-180. Been between 155-160 for the last 5 years without worrying about calories, and slowly gaining muscle instead of belly fat. It is wonderful.

Interesting point, though: My problem with food was never gluttony. I wasn’t eating out of control, not since my first diet at 15. And I had tons of self-control. But I was fighting my body, and the tools I used were making things gradually worse. When I see fat Christians in church, the problem isn’t always that they are gluttons! Some are. Some simply like sweets and will not give them up. But many fought a losing fight against fat for decades and finally surrendered. They need good advice. A plan that works.

BTW - My wife’s family is from the Philippines. They have rice as a staple. When she was young, no one had diabetes, but she was 5’2” and 85 pounds when she left the province. When you are starving, a high carb / high starch diet is OK. But now when she goes home, half of her sisters are diabetic. They kept eating lots of rice only now they have enough to get fat on. And it is killing them early.

The Israelites probably weren’t fat. Certainly not due to eating too much, too often, all thru childhood.

So carbs are not really bad.

That is part of my point: Don’t take diet advice from someone who has never been obese, unless you haven’t been obese. What works for those of us with out of whack hormones (insulin resistance) is different from how our bodies were intended to work.

That should have been stated that as the condition at the outset, and allowed for carbs being substantially the norm, thus consistent with the standard diet indicated in the Bible, vs. stating my advocation of only normally eating high fat foods in minimal amounts was "bad advice," while you have gone to to “near carnivore” and eating one meal a day. I am sorry for reacting more against your initially dismissal of my statement, and which was part of whole in which the amount of intake of was relative to activity.

I apologize for reacting against the seeming rejection of limiting eating fat calories (relative to activity) for normal people, and the hyping of keto. For like as some people with Linux, it seems there is zero tolerance for anything negative. Kind of cultic.

As for harvard.edu: one might as well get information about Christianity from the NY Times...Liars lie, and they often lie about everything! ..the idea that Keto or even carnivore isn’t sustainable simply does not match reality. Too many of us alive now doing it.

Apparently meaning nothing contrary can be cited from such, including the overall negative consensus of a Google search on the long term Keto diet conclusions, since only positive anecdotal reports must be conclusive.

But if after 5 years of keto and fasting you still have belly fat (which you expect to be almost gone within a year) and once was down to 120 pounds on your 5’8” male body and STILL had a thick layer of belly fat, then there is something more going on.

Carry on. Beloved, may you "prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." (3 John 2) To the glory of God.

Truly said.

I subscribe to her weekly analysis of nutrition science “studies”. A sample of her point about macronutrients:

“The first thing to know about macronutrients is that most foods have more than one. There are two interesting exceptions. Oils (sunflower oil, coconut oil, olive oil etc) are 100% fat. They have no protein or carbohydrate. Sucrose – what we know as ‘table’ sugar – is 100% carbohydrate. It has no fat or protein. Every other food contains protein. Lettuce, bread, apples, steak, milk – all of these and every food other than sucrose and oils, contains protein.

Meat and fish contain fat and protein and essentially no carbohydrate (liver can contain some carbohydrate in the form of glycogen). Eggs are almost entirely fat and protein – they have just a trace of carbohydrate. Dairy products are mostly fat and protein with approximately 5% carbohydrate, as a rule of thumb. Fruits and vegetables are mostly carbohydrate, but they all contain protein and most also contain fat – even if only in trace amounts.

The unusual foods are nuts and seeds. Most foods tend to be carb and protein (grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables) or fat and protein (meat, fish, eggs, and dairy). Nuts and seeds (and avocados) have carbohydrate, protein and fat all in reasonable quantities.
The key things to remember at this stage are:

- Everything, other than sucrose and oils, contains protein;

- Things that once had a face (or come from things with a face) are fat/proteins – meat, fish, eggs and dairy products;

- Things that come from the ground, or the trees, are carb/proteins – grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables;...

...Although we have a fundamental need for fat and protein, we either don’t need, or need very little, of the one macronutrient that we are currently advised to ensure forms the vast majority of our diet – carbohydrate. The increasing number of carnivores also prove that we don’t need to consume plants. Carnivores are not losing brain function or developing scurvy.

This is the best citation that I have found in support of the statement that we don’t need carbohydrate. “The lower limit of dietary carbohydrate compatible with life apparently is zero, provided that adequate amounts of protein and fat are consumed” (Ref 5).”

God made man and women distinctively different yet uniquely compatible and complementary, and only joined them together in marriage - as the Lord Jesus Himself specified (Mt. 19:4–6) - and Scripture only condemns homosexual relations wherever they are manifestly dealt with.

And homosexual relations have been tragically primarily responsible for approx. 80% of new HIV cases among men and over 700,000 American deaths, though such is not even the decisive reason why homosexual relations are wrong.

Yet there is still room at the cross for all who will come to God in repentance and faith, and trust in the Divine Son of God sent by the Father, the risen Lord Jesus, to save them on His account, by His sinless shed blood, and thus be baptized and live for Him. Acts 10:36-47

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

  9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were.
But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

No matter what "politically correct" term we come up with to describe a group of people, it will eventually become pejorative.

For example, "mentally retarded" was intended to be a kinder substitute for "moron" or "imbecile" - terms that were actually in wide usage up until the 1970s.

Obese was actually intended to be a nice way of saying "fat" or "husky". In fact, I remember back in the 1970s that they would sell "husky" jeans for you know, fat people.
