No constitutional right to a pit bull.
“””Or mandate owners of the breed to have insurance.”””
That might reduce their number and improve the average level of responsibility among the owners, but the damage they do can’t be compensated for monetarily, slow deaths of being chewed and ripped to death, ripping off of limbs, ghastly disfigurements and removal of faces and large muscles masses.
Wrong, no pit bull that has been properly socialized, trained and owned by responsible owners, attack without being provoked.
The point is, a lot of people want to ban an entire breed of dog, because a handful of owners are irresponsible, same thing with guns, liberals want to ban them because a handful of insane people have killed using guns.
I’ve seen Labradors the most popular breed of dog in American attack, same goes for Golden Retrievers, not to mention Malinois, Shepards, etc., No one is talking about banning those breeds.
I would guess Pit Bull attacks are no more common than other breed of dogs, except pit bull attacks get publicized and ohter breeds don’t.
I like dogs. I grew up with them. I carry a concealed handgun legally. If a dog leaves me alone, I leave him alone. If a dog attacks me, it’s gonna get shot.
End of story.
That’s true but the argument is the same. Irresponsible acts by a few people lead other people to argue about banning the entire thing, whether that’s guns or dog breeds.
What’s the common denominator, irresponsible people owning either one.
I don’t want to ban them. I don’t care what breed it is, it doesn’t really matter.
If it attacks me, it’s gonna get shot. That’s just the way it is.
That is false. You can’t substitute a dangerous animal which will attack people, completely unprovoked, with an inanimate object which can do absolutely nothing on its own. Ridiculous.
A pit bull does not have to feel threatened. I have been reading stories for years of pit bulls that snapped and attacked, and often killed, the children of the owners. The owners always have the same story.....it was such a gentle dog. The perfect pet. Loved the kids. Up until the moment they snap.
No one is arguing against any of that, what I’m talking about is outright banning something over the irresponsible acts of a few people.
“””Substitute the word Pit Bull with Gun and the argument is the same.”””
Good Lord that is silly reasoning, insane, ridiculous reasoning.
A metal tool versus a roaming unpredictable predator animal, jumping over fences, dragging kids off of bikes with no owner in sight, animals off on their own hunt, you are comparing grizzlies and mountain lions and pit bulls with our gun?
Then let’s ban guns because an irresponsible owner leaves a gun laying around and child picks it up and kills himself or another child.
In this particular case, the dog was probably euthanized, was the owner punished?? We don’t know but I doubt it, if a child shot himself or another person because an owner left a guy lying around, the owner would be rightfully punished, why don’t we know if the dog owner was punished.
When you say a dangerous animal and completely unprovoked, those things can’t possibly be known unless you were there.
My experience is, if you are irresponsible with dogs, you are irresponsible with children.

It’s the exact same argument.
How many pit bulls have you ever seen running around in the woods like Grizzlies and Mountain Lions, the answer is ZERO.
Pit Bulls are domestic animals just like any other dog.
I am still waiting for an attack by a pack of rabid and feral chihuahuas.
You are deluded.
When you find all those other reports of other breeds attacking as often as pits and doing that level of damage, then post them here.

They sound like predator animals to me, hunting and running down their prey, it isn’t all like a piece of metal in my holster.
“A grandmother was savagely mauled by three pit bulls while walking down a neighborhood in Austin, Texas.
(snip)
On Monday, Perez was taking an evening stroll with her nephew near her home in Round Rock. A neighbor opened their front door and three aggressive pit bulls leaped out. The dogs started running towards Perez and her nephew. The pair were chased down a dead-end street

“On October 9, officers responded to the 1500 block of Merrell Cove in response to an unprovoked dog attack involving two victims with significant injuries. One victim was walking on the sidewalk when three dogs exited a residence after the front door was left open and attacked her,” the statement reads. “In an attempt to help the victim and divert the dogs’ attention, a nearby neighbor was also attacked. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries.”
Substitute the word Pit Bull with Gun and the argument is the same. Should we ban guns when a lunatic shoots up a school ??? Absolutely not, the response is always, it’s not the gun it’s the owner, the exact same thing is true of dogs.
Oh, Baloney! You can’t substitute pitbull for gun. A gun is a defensive weapon, A pitbull is an often sweet dog, but deadly if it suddenly attacks. The breed should be outlawed. There are plenty of other breeds out there for dog lovers. Why insist on having a dog that can kill?
Except pit bulls KILL, and often UNPROVOKED!
Yeah, that would be wrong. When I go for walks on our local bike path, I can’t carry, because the bike path is on Park District land next to the river. And the park district doesn’t allow firearms on that land. Luckily, any dog walkers leash their dogs, and are very responsible. It’s a win-win.
It’s unlikely that I will ever BE in unsafe situation like that, but if it did happen, I wouldn’t hesitate.
Here you go, if you google the issue, one law firm after another has the same advertising about pit bulls being the most dangerous aggressive dogs, the primary reason is pit bulls are bred by irresponsible people for fighting.
Here’s a more recent article indicating Labradors are just as likely to attack as pit bulls due to the number of labs in the country.

Just like guns, people that aren’t really knowledgeable want to ban something primarily due to the actions of irresponsible people.
What group of people are the most likely to use guns irresponsibly and end up killing people, the same group owns a lot of pit bulls as well.
Other dog breeds can and do attack, but not with the frequency and severity of pit bulls. IMO, pit bulls are bombs waiting to go off. I knew one woman who was attacked by her own pit bull that she had lovingly raised from a pup. They were sitting on the couch, tv was on, and bam! Fortunately her husband was home; he ended up having to shoot the dog to stop the attack. I saw the results of another attack - a heavily bandaged woman. She was parked in front of a store (diagonal parking places). She returned to her car and was getting in when the driver of the adjacent car opened the side door and her pit bull charged out. Family pet; apparently had not done anything like this before.
