It will also create a plumber shortage.

A ridiculous number of new showers, bathrooms and sinks will be needed to be installed to convert highrises to residential.

The best part is that they will end up being occupied by Section 8 tenants because it will be too dangerous to walk outside the building—and eventually too dangerous to get into the elevator.

“lead-based paint and asbestos insulation in the older buildings”

I know a developer who had an easy solution for such problems—bribe the building inspectors!

A little acrylic paint over the lead-based paint, don’t disturb the asbestos...problem solved.

“And they don’t recognize that living in commercial use building is a primer for disaster?”

Remember the thousands of sterile housing towers HUD erected in urban areas during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The liberal urban renewal vision of the time was cramming the urban poor into high rise buildings. This housing quickly became crime ridden and poorly maintained by the residents. Ultimately most were torn down.

Here we go again. If you fail once, do it again and do it better!.

How many Democrat donor billionaires got a heads up on this plan and bought vacant office towers to capitalize on the flood of federal money coming to pay for converting office space to residential?

New resources will encourage zero emissions conversions and transit-oriented development that increase housing supply and cut climate pollution

That's a lot of gobbledy-goop even for a Democrat.

This is a vehicle to siphon money to the Biden Crime Family through their cronies.

The cronies will get contracts that they will provide kickbacks to the “Big Guy” while not doing the work.

Houston has the lowest office occupancy rate of all the big cities, but Houston's downtown is not residential -- it shuts down by 7:00pm except for the few hotels and nearby restaurants that stay open throughout the dinner hours.

Converting vacant office buildings into residential units won't do any good if there are no grocery stores, drug stores, gas stations, and other residential conveniences nearby to support day and night occupancy.

If I had the time I would post the flames I got from some that said they would never turn commercial properties in to residential warehouses for the illegal alien invaders (in which they will live free). Amazing how fast the government can move when it gets them power.

“bathrooms can become communal”

Hotel F1 comes to mind.

Many old hotels had communal bathrooms.

SOHO in NYC went from industrial to residential space about six decades ago.

Quisling Puppet Biden needs to find a place for the 50 million illegal aliens to live.

Vidkun Quisling was executed by firing squad at Akershus Fortress, Oslo, on 24 October 1945. History repeats itself.

You will own nothing and be happy. Forget about a long overdue, natural correction in the market.

So now they will turn these into tiny one bedroom condos for 450k, payment due to Blackstone and Blackrock.

Any failures in the real estate market will be bailed out in the event that there is a dimocrat in the WH.

Its too cost prohibitive to retrofit many commercial properties. They were not designed to handle sewer and electrical of individual units. Its not going to end well.
