One of my mom’s relatives (from the Swedish side, I think) had a cement slab put on his wife’s grave to keep her from coming back. Minnesotans have an interesting sense of death humor (?).

On my father’s side of the family, Italians are more practical than vindictive. He said that people would buy their coffins and store them in the garage for future occupation.

Also common in those regions to bury the dead suspected of being a vampire with giant bricks or rocks in their mouth
