Ever notice how the climate changes? Weather changes? Wind changes speed and direction? And yes the surface of the ocean changes. Amazing.
Let’s call it the ‘Trump wave’ š
I stood many a look out watch on the top of the sail (conning tower) of a diesel sub while transiting on the surface, some 35-40 feet above the water line. Night and day watches.
We were sometimes in storms and the troughs of the wave were so deep that I could look straight out from where I was, and the top of the waves were even with me or slightly higher. Angry walls of water. We were safety harnessed to the boat at those times. If you went overboard then there was no use looking for you.
If memory serves, we surface transited through or near Hurricane Agnes in June of ‘72 on the way to the Gulf Coast from Key West. We begged to submerge to get beneath the waves. Entire crew puked. Only time I ever got seasick in my 3 years at sea.
If you wanna feel like a tiny speck in the universe,..or the awesome power of the Almighty...do that.
Slow day for fear mongering headlines.
Meh. Check out the waves at Nazare/Portugal.

Rouge waves are largely restricted to the Gulf Coast off Florida and Alabama ...
Wave probably caused by a larger than usual underwater earthquake or land slippage. The media has less credibility than Weekly World News.
They couldn’t make it through the first paragraph without “climate change”.
"Eternal Father strong to save ..."
I did not know, until about two minutes ago, that USN had diesel submarines in commission until 1990. Learn something every day ...
I’m told that paying higher taxes can fix this.
We decommissioned mine in May of ‘73. Sold it to Venezuela. They kept it goin for more than 10 more years.
We were scared to death to go to sea in it when we sold it to them!
I think all waves should have some form of ID so we can better cataloged and study them.
Guess there wasn’t a morning after for some.
“on record”
We live such short lives. Before “records” started, is most of the history of the world. Massive hurricanes, underwater volcanoes, must have been huuuuge. Sometimes, in the geologic evidence, we can see that something big happened. That said, the surface of the Earth changes so much over time, wiping out evidence of much of what occured.
As I have stated previously, I would love to be able to travel into the future when the Great Cold returns and watch the future Comedy Channel. There could be a daily or weekly show dedicated to AlGore and his minions stating “The Earth has a fever” while the viewers shiver.
I just sent the government a $50. check. On the check memo I wrote, "For milder winter."
The ‘Left’ Coast of Canaduh, especially
Vancouver, BC is full of socialists and communists. If a rogue wave flooded Hongcouver, what would the problem be, exactly?
I am in Calgary, AB, sitting at 3,400 feet, 600 miles from Hongcouver. In addition, there are several mountain ranges between Hongcouver and Calgary. Rogue waves do not pose a problem for Calgary. Excessive rain, or mountain run-off does.
Many a great story involves being terrified and miserable at the time!
On a related note, can a sub be rolled over?
Daft...
Aviation and sailing both have a way of making you feel really small when things start to go sideways. Some people combine the two activities ...
