Alton Brown did a series called "Feasting on Asphalt" about "road food", basically an excuse for him and a camera crew to ride motorcycles cross-country and sample food along old highways and back roads. The second season of the show was "The River Run", following the Mississippi from the southern tip of Louisiana as far north as they could chase it.

These pickles were featured in the first or second episode, somewhere in the Mississippi Delta area. Alton was not impressed, but did say that it might be interesting sliced up with some barbeque.

I'll stick with regular pickles and pickled onions, no artificial fruit flavors needed.
