It is the day that we use to celebrate the date of our Saviour’s birth, that is true. However, the reason for Joseph’s trip to Nazareth was to pay his taxes. You tax when the citizens are most likely to have money, which in an agrarian economy would be earlier in the year. All indications in the Bible seem to say that Christ was more likely born in September, during harvest season.

There is even a Jewish holiday, that I forget, which may have been a prophetic fulfillment when Christ was born that was supposed to give evidence of when he was born. I read it at one time, but my recollection is poor on that.
“Big surprise, they sold their souls to Satan decades ago.”
Definitely. Here’s Gaga saying “I swear to Lucifer”

“I hate what Christmas has become.”
A local “Christian” radio station now plays 24\7 Christmas music. They now play Rocking around the Christmas Tree just as much as they play Silent Night.
They are giving Christmas packages to select listeners so they “don’t have to go without Christmas.”
This radio station used to be very religious, but like much of the our religious world, it is becoming a hybrid of Christian and secular images.
Instead of promoting consumerism
Like the business their in?.
Just hope they don't play a rock version of "Silent Night." That's why I skipped the midnight service of our local evangelical church. I went last year and couldn't stand it when their "praise" band played "Silent Night," "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" and other carols to a rock beat.
I wouldn’t touch that with a tack nailer!
Agree quality counts
When I was in the Navy (1967-1971) we had a choice of leave on Christmas or New year...Never both...(I always took Christmas to come home)
Oh well I don’t give a s*** what some celebrity thinks about much of anything
I am SHOCKED after reading the posts here, how MANY FREEPERS are DOWNERS!! BUCK UP!!! CHRIST CAME TO SAVE YOU, NOT BUY YOU PRESENTS OR THE PERFECT FAMILY!!
Good one. I guess, actually having salt and and a lime in the fridge, I have to drink the tequila for you too (LOL). Oh the lengths I go for America. Now where did I put Gal Godot's phone number? Strictly for IDF consultation...
Merry Christmas!
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Jesus came that we might have real life and have it abundantly. He came to his own but they didn’t accept him. But to those who do (and did), there is forgiveness of sin, his Holy Spirit to enable you be an overcomer in the struggles we now face, hope for a perfect world when he returns and the fellowship of others who struggle imperfectly to follow him until he returns or takes us home. There’s a better Christmas coming for those who surrender to his Lordship and give up their lives in this world to follow him. Tough, but worth the journey. Don’t quit, don’t give up, don’t become bitter. Remember, Joseph told his brothers, “You meant it for evil, but God used it for good.” Jesus can take the bad things and bring good out of them. For his glory and for your good. You can trust him who laid down his life for you and loves you with an everlasting love. In that spirit I wish all Freepers, “Merry Christmas!”
If not for Disney (puke) and Miley’s snake tongue she would be liberal trailor trash no one had ever heard of. Spit
Like I strive to post with primary focus on amusement and laughter while attempting to convey a little hard-won wisdom along the way. Thank you for the input and bless your heart.
I’ve lost too many close family members and good friends in the holiday time period. Just lost one good friend right after thanksgiving. I’m to the point now where I dread the holidays because something awful always seems to happen around them.
In John chapter 1 we are told that the “Word became flesh and dwelled among us.” That leads many to believe it is sort of a word play in the Bible that alludes to His birthday.
The scriptures also tell us in Zechariah 14:16 that during the messianic reign the leaders of the earth will come to Jerusalem every year to see Him on the Feast of Tabernacles. So, perhaps that's His birthday present.
I don't have a strong opinion either way, and have decided to major on the majors and minor on the minors. It is what it is...
That’s the term I was looking for. Feast of Tabernacles.
[choice of leave on Christmas or New year...Never both]
I remember one AF unit that gave you a free week off if you volunteered to work Christmas AND New Years weeks. Being stuck in the dorm, it was a good deal.
“When I was in the Navy, I had duty every Christmas.”
I used to take duty for the married cooks so they could be with their families. Mom and dad had passed, my marriage was recently annulled (thank you Jesus 🙏), so I would go in and cook a nice meal for the crew on duty (I was a stewburner). Good times.
100% agreed. Repulsive, and skanky.
