I too am on the same musical page. There was a lot of talent from that era that I just let pass me by. While I will most likely never acquire the music, I now have a greater appreciation and respect for it.

I am still in the live sound business during the summer months. So my grand relatives know I have some knowledge of bands in general.

I tell them that the two things that ruined appreciation of virtuosity were MTV and MIDI.
