A writer I respect told me I should concentrate on writing fiction more than opinion editorials. He said I should focus on what I appear to do best. This is a short little sci-fi story I whipped up tonight. Let me know if you like it.

Well done Laz. You should write a book and publish.

I’m no writer but by the time I finished reading your story I was thinking you ought to write a fuller version of it.
Flesh out this galaxy-exploring civilization.

Coincidence? I . don’t . THINK . so! lol

Reminds me of an old Isaac Asimov short short story - “Silly Asses” - The Galactic Recorder or some such muckety-muck notes that the human race has achieved maturity by developing atomic fission, but when he finds out we tested our nukes on the surface of our own planet he writes us off as silly asses.

A writer I respect told me I should concentrate on writing fiction more than opinion editorials. He said I should focus on what I appear to do best.

"Quo Vadis"

Petronius: [in his dying letter to Nero] To Nero, Emperor of Rome, Master of the World, Divine Pontiff. I know that my death will be a disappointment to you, since you wished to render me this service yourself. To be born in your reign is a miscalculation; but to die in it is a joy. I can forgive you for murdering your wife and your mother, for burning our beloved Rome, for befouling our fair country with the stench of your crimes. But one thing I cannot forgive - the boredom of having to listen to your verses, your second-rate songs, your mediocre performances. Adhere to your special gifts, Nero - murder and arson, betrayal and terror. Mutilate your subjects if you must; but with my last breath I beg you - do not mutilate the arts. Fare well, but compose no more music. Brutalize the people, but do not bore them, as you have bored to death your friend, the late Gaius Petronius.

Regards,

I liked it.

Confused about 12,000 years passing in the conversation. Is that their time or our time? How many years in our future, if we’re already gone.

How many races are extraordinarily slow and take 12,000 years for their next question?

wouldn’t speed be an advantage?

Were any of the civilizations Ming the Merciless?

Were any of the civilizations Ming the Merciless?

Were any of the AI machine civilizations still protecting their creator race?

I want to see the report on the Humans too.

I was a big sci-fi buff in teens and twenties and read all the greats.

I like your writing style and you craft well. It will suit the genre.

I look forward to reading more.
