I completely agree.
That movie was on TCM the other night. The only reason I didn’t watch it was I’ve seen it some 5-6 times and I don’t want it to get stale on me by over watching it.

My one complaint about the movie was that they made a drunken, incompetent lout like Uncle Billy out to be a sympathetic character. That guy had no business working with other people’s money.
If I was a character in that movie and I had an opportunity to help George Bailey out, I would have given him an ultimatum:
“I’ll give you the $8,000 but you have to fire Uncle Billy. I’ll give you $25,000 if you set him on fire on the street outside the Bailey Bros. Building & Loan.”

I watch it every year at Christmas time.
Myrna Loy was smoking hot. So was Theresa Wright.

I watched it years ago. I didn’t really care for it. It was too depressing.
Funny, I didn't find it depressing at all. It's basically an American rendition of A Christmas Carol. A good man falls on hard times and divine intervention convinces him that his life was not only worth living, but a great gift to all around him.
Interestingly, I saw a notice once that a sequel was planned at one point starring the woman who played George Bailey's daughter, ZuZu. In the sequel, ZuZu's grandson is a complete dirtbag until an angelic visitor shows him how much better the world would have been if he were never born.

” banks are not your friends.”
I’ve also found over time the same can be said about Credit Unions.
Credit Unions employers and employees overpay themselves compared to the area banks — all at the expense of the ‘so called’ members that own the union. You and me.

Based on personal tragedies, thoughts of suicide, thievery, drunkenness and more.
It’s called life more so now then ever.

Typical rich “Christian” banker where I live. Big bucks, extremely conspicuous piety, treats underlings like crap. Know several.
The more someone tells me how pious and/or ethical they are, the tighter I hold on to my wallet.

I’ve read that Lionel Barrymore was very sympathetic and encouraging with Jimmy during filming.

It sounds like there is much to read about from that movie set.
There must have been a lot of coping and adjusting that year for millions of people, relationships, families, and workplaces, a lot of intensity.
