The government should stay completely out of health care, except when they should be involved in health care?
Makes perfect sense, but doesn’t.

It would need to be done gradually because to suddenly deny people healthcare when they have no health insurance would not work out well.
People need time to figure out what to do.
I agree that elective surgeries would be a good place to start.
Also, no healthcare for illegals except emergency, life saving kind that gets them well enough to ship back as soon as feasible.
Get rid of the free health care for illegals that we have to pay for. We have to pay for our own medical care. They should, too if they receive any. I think our healthcare costs would adjust to reasonable levels.

It’s not the kind of involvement with health care that is ruining the system. It’s simply for providing for the healthcare of those you were responsible for getting injured in the first place.
There’s a world of difference between providing for medical care for your own soldiers, and (mis) managing health care like Medicare, Medicaid, and obamacare, and setting costs. That MUST stop. but providing for someone who was injured in the line of duty does NOT destroy our health care system like the socialize medicine kind does.

Government has not only an interest, but also a responsibility in supporting the health and welfare of its citizens. You said never, except for this one area, and I agree.

You could not have been more clear. No medical care for military personnel by the government.
So following your position to its logical conclusion, there should no medical care for the military by military doctors, medics, field hospitals, etc. Nor any medical hospitals or doctors or medics in the first place.
If someone gets injured in their service, sucks to be them. It's then their responsibility to find and pay for medical care themselves. Too bad for the guy who lost a leg from an IED. I'm sure there's some village witch doctor nearby who could save his life.
