Hi, ladyinred!
Caught some of your comments in the "So long to my friends..." post!
Gosh, I love this place.
Some brilliant stuff.
Some screwy stuff, too.
(Laz, for example)

It's maybe that alternate definition of temporary that is confusing everybody. The term I used means "probably never."

I did have hopes to integrate the old stuff into the new system, but this issue is complicated and not very useful, and growing less useful as time passes. So probably never. If you want to bump something from the past, create a new thread and link to the old one.

Sadly it's looking more than temporary now. If it's worth bumping, it's probably worth reposting into the new system, linking back to the old style URL.

To answer your question, hopefully not long. A week?

Or, maybe 2-3 years? :-)

Just don't lock the Undead Thread, and I'll be fine.

Or never. :-( It ended up being a bigger job than I anticipated, for little benefit. The more time passes, the less useful this is.

We're never going to be able to post to these threads as-is like before. That just isn't feasible. They'd have to be inserted into the database... somehow.

Understood. I was hoping to bump a few Election 2000 threads to the top, like we do the 9/11 threads on occassion. I can certainly understand that the job is bigger than the benefit, and I know that there are bigger fish out there.

Roughly how long is "temporarily locked"?

About 4 years.

Thank you for the warning. That really helps.
There are dozens of classics in the archives that are useful to post from time to time to give the newer members a chance to benefit from the 10-year FR experience.

I would urge the updating of older threads as soon as possible.

But it's really nice to know that being unable to find an old useful thread is not due to something we're doing wrong.

Can't do that. That would be multiple posting of the same article and the posting police will swarm in and say: "Already posted here, here and here" < /sarcasm >

I've decided to ignore those pathetic losers except for the following standard response:

It may have been posted before, but I failed to see it, and I'm the center of the universe!

Didn't you get the memo?

John, what are the chances of re-posting the “DOWNSIDE LEGACY AT TWO DEGREES OF PRESIDENT CLINTON” series from Alamo Girl as a Truth File? With Hillary and Obama neck-and-neck, a refresher course would be welcome.
