Word For The Day, Friday, 3/21/03
3/21/03

Posted on 03/21/2003 1:42:33 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Teacher's note:
I know some of you wonder why I post WFTD just after midnight every night. The reason is simple. I am on the west coast. If I post it when I get up, it would be late morning for many of you, and I do not want any of you to think that I forgot to post it. Also, I know many of you are irked by the fact that you do not always receive a grade and critique, or that the critique is non-existent. Once again, by the time I get up and get around to this thread, it is upwards of 200 posts. My apologies if any of you are annoyed beyond belief.

supposititious\suh-poz-uh-TISH-uhs\, adjective:

1. Fraudulently substituted for something else; not being what is purports to be; not genuine; spurious; counterfeit.
2. Hypothetical; supposed.

Etymology: Supposititious is from Latin suppositicius, from suppositus, past participle of supponere, "to put under, to substitute," from sub-, "under" + ponere, "to put." It is related to suppose.

heh heh ! I understand. I used to live in the Pacific Northwest 1966-69. I shoveled more snow than I care to remember. I recall when it would warm into the 40-50's how relatively WARM it seemed at the time. Now, having lived in Texas for all these years, when we dip DOWN into the 50's after the long hot summer, it seems so very COOL ! . . .

I am of the opinion that the tape of Saddam was suppositious and most likely a rough draft, recorded before the bombing. Of course I also believe UBL was a goner at Tora Bora and they won't tell us the truth because the screaming weenies would say we don't need to keep fighting.

heh heh ! A different twist, actually. I retire early, and hence rise early. But not to be first on a thread. Just out of my normal routine. I've always been an early riser, and even have a sense of humor in the morning too ! :O) . . .

Gun: A simple tool for making holes ... at a distance!

It looks like we hit at least a ground rule double with the surgical strike on Iraq Wednesday night.

I will finally be able to be in class today. More details later.
