OH, that was sweet, lod. We had fun - the Salt Lick is a cool place.
Did make it to Comfort ok - what a hoot that spot is. The B&B I was in is unique and really quite nice compared to the odd hotel.
Got to see plenty of bluebonnets and indian paintbrush yesterday and today. Now I'm down on the gulf coast - bring on the sailboats!

News of Jessica Lynch's miraculous rescue has just thrilled the people of this state. In her little home town of Palestine last night, vehicles with lights or sirens had them going full force, and people drove around honking their horns. Her parents were interviewed. They could barely speak, but did say that they never lost faith and hope, and were thankful for the millions who prayed for Jessica.

Boo-freakin'-hoo alert:
THE Dixie Chicks say they're in danger of bodily harm from folks who are taking their anti-Bush statements a little too personally. The country trio - who got in hot water three weeks ago for telling a London concert audience they were "embarrassed" that George W. Bush is a fellow Texan - told Australian radio they've been receiving threats and some of their property had been vandalized.
"We've gotten a lot of hate mail, a lot of threatening mail," Martie Maguire said Saturday after a gig in Sydney. "Emily [Robison] had the front gate of her ranch smashed in. We have to have security when we get back to the states. It puts my well-being in jeopardy."
Even after seeing Dixie Chicks albums banned from radio playlists, Natalie Maines says she's still shocked at the amount of press her tantrum received, reports Sydney journo David J. Baird.
"What is wrong with the world when what the Dixie Chicks say is more important than the war? Why does anyone care what we think?" The backlash has left Maguire with "a combination of emotions. Either I want to speak out more or I'm scared to say anything." page six

Gunga Dan's most prized possession:
WHEN DAN Rather returned from Iraq before the war began he brought back a gold pocket watch. Flipped open it reveals Saddam Hussein and a colored map of Iraq. This watch with chain is quite nice looking if you overlook the subject matter. Liz Smith

Glad to see you made it to Comfort safely, espescially without the benefit of deer whistles on your vehicle. Checking the Comfort, TX lodging directory I found ten bed and breakfast places that your secretary could have selected. What an industry...This one's on a working cattle and goat ranch.
Good luck in Houston, and let's do it again whenever you return to CenTex.
Cheers.

USA Today has a piece on Pres. Bush, how he's handling the strain of war, etc.:
WASHINGTON -- The public face of President Bush at war is composed and controlled. On TV and in newspaper photos, he is sturdy and assured, usually surrounded by military personnel. But those choreographed glimpses of Bush's commander-in-chief persona don't tell the whole story. Behind the scenes, aides and friends say, the president's role is more complicated and his style more emotional.
People who know Bush well say the strain of war is palpable. He rarely jokes with staffers these days and occasionally startles them with sarcastic putdowns. He's being hard on himself; he gave up sweets just before the war began. He's frustrated when armchair generals or members of his own team express doubts about U.S. military strategy. At the same time, some of his usual supporters are concerned by his insistence on sticking with the original war plan. full story

Most of us believe that saddam has enjoyed his last smork.
Am I the only one that remembers the flaming negligee tale?
I really don't want to go back through all the archives to find that gem...

More interesting tidbits before I have to buckle down and get some work done:
Iran Terrorist Group Finds Support on (Capitol) Hill from Republicans and Dems alike.
And this: During the 1991 Gulf War, then-Rep. David Bonior (D-Mich.), after constituent complaints, led an effort to stop FBI intelligence-gathering aimed at Detroits large Arab-American population. Other Democrats got involved, and the bureau backed off. More than a decade later, Detroit is a hotbed of suspected Arab terrorism. full story

"She needs to avoid color blocking, which is disempowering for women because it confuses the eye and distracts from the message. People will be trying to make sense of the design and get distracted from what she's saying." Sadly, this is thought to hold true even if what she's delivering is grave or vital news about American troops.
This is a fair point.
That said, I'd still rather see women dressing like women than choosing the Old Crusty route to fashion.
