The Tim Russert interview was pretty good. He was describing this Road Map to Peace as basically a highway of Death. He said Hamas is going to do what they did last week and Israel will have to respond.

He quoted Tom Rose's editorial in the Jerusalem Post that these terrorist attack are Israel’s version of September 11th. How can we ask them not to respond?

He also said that Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas has a 2% approval rating. IMUS chimed in that that was lower than Grey Davis's.

Then they started discussing the Recall effort in California. IMUS has been mentioning this all week. Russert said that Greyout Davis could pull a fast one and resign and appoint the Lieutenant Governor as Governor if he looks like the Recall is going to pass which is quite possible.

I had one of the new McGriddles at McDonalds a couple of days ago. It might need a warning. Egg, bacon, cheese and
syrup on a toasted bun. Not something a less than perfect
heart would need.

One Dead After Palestinian Gunmen Ambush Car

Fri June 20, 2003 07:52 AM ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - At least one person was killed and three were wounded on Friday in a Palestinian ambush of an Israeli car in the West Bank, the Israeli army said. A settler spokesman said two of the wounded were Americans who came to Israel on Thursday to visit relatives.

The attack took place as Secretary of State Colin Powell, on a visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories in a bid to salvage the battered "road map" peace deal, was holding a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

"Terrorists opened fire at a car, which then overturned," an army spokeswoman said of the attack on a road used by Jewish settlers to bypass the nearby Palestinian city of Ramallah. "One person is dead and three are wounded, two critically."

It was not immediately clear if the car's passengers were hit by gunshots. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Well, that didn't take long did it?

Feds: Ohio Terror Suspect Is Cooperating
Add U.S. National - AP to My Yahoo!

By JONATHAN DREW, Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Federal authorities say terrorism suspect Iyman Faris is cooperating in the investigation of al-Qaida. Faris pleaded guilty yesterday to felony terrorism charges and admitted plots against trains and the Brooklyn Bridge.

The 34-year-old Ohio truck driver has acknowledged that he met Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) at a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan (news - web sites) and worked with other top al-Qaida officials, according to court documents.

When she found out her ex-husband met bin Laden, Geneva Bowling said she felt "physically ill."

"It just doesn't seem like the person I knew," said Bowling, the former wife of Faris.

"I don't feel well. ... I'm still in shock. I just need some time for it to sink in," Bowling said Thursday night by phone from her Columbus apartment.

"This case highlights the very real threats that still exist here at home in the United States of America in the war against terrorism," Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) said at a Justice Department (news - web sites) news conference in Washington. "While we are disabling al-Qaida, we don't believe it is disabled."

Faris has acknowledged that he met bin Laden in 2000 at an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan and provided operatives there with sleeping bags, cell phones and other assistance, court documents show.

Faris pleaded guilty May 1 to providing material support to terrorists and conspiracy to provide support, according to documents unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va.

Authorities said Faris received attack instructions from top terror leader Khalid Shaikh Mohammed for what they suggested might have been a second wave planned for New York and Washington to follow the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Faris, who is represented by a lawyer and said in the documents he was not coerced to plead, could face 20 years in prison and up to $500,000 in fines. Sentencing was set for Aug. 1.

The Kashmir (news - web sites) native arrived in the United States in May 1994 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in December 1999.

In Columbus, former neighbors said Faris blared music when working on cars or warming up his commercial rig in his driveway. Some complained about the noise, but described the independent truck driver, who was often on the road, as unapproachable and aloof.

"That someone even associated with this craziness is right here in Columbus, it's sad," said 26-year-old Negla Ross, his former next-door neighbor.

Those who interacted with Faris, also known as Mohammed Rauf, recalled a man who sometimes lost his temper but also liked to laugh. He had been working in Columbus for several years.

Records show that under his alias, he was married to Bowling from 1995 to 2000 and lived with her in a small home in Columbus.

"I have felt physically ill since all this happened; I still do," said Bowling, 46.

Mike Bowling, 18, said he hadn't spoken to his former stepfather in two months.

"I remember the man had a very good sense of humor," he said.

This spring, Faris stayed a couple of weeks with a friend at a Columbus apartment complex. The rental office turned down his application to be put on the lease for the two-bedroom unit because of bad credit, resident manager Craig Cook said.

"He was very upset — but some people really are when you have to turn them down," Cook said. No one answered at the apartment Thursday.

Although the senior operative is referred to only as "C-2" in the documents, a U.S. law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity identified him as Mohammed. He was captured in Pakistan on March 1 and is said to be providing interrogators with a wealth of information about al-Qaida's global reach.

According to a government statement that Faris signed, an al-Qaida leader instructed Faris to obtain "gas cutters," probably acetylene torches, that would enable him to sever the cables on "a bridge in New York City" that officials said was the Brooklyn Bridge.

To avoid government detection, Faris was told to refer to the cutters as "gas stations."

Mohammed also told Faris that he should obtain heavy torque tools — code-named "mechanics shops" — that could be used to derail trains in the United States, the affidavit says. The court papers refer to New York and Washington but provide no further detail about time or location of an attack.

The statement says that Faris researched the Brooklyn Bridge on the Internet and traveled to New York in late 2002 to examine it, finally concluding that "the plot to destroy the bridge by severing the cables was very unlikely to succeed."

None of the allegedly planned attacks was carried out.

Faris' meetings with al-Qaida took place in 2000, 2001 and early 2002 in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the government statement says. Faris' original contact with al-Qaida came through a second senior operative, named only as "C-1" or "bin Laden's right foot," whom the government says Faris had known since the Soviet-Afghanistan war in the 1980s.

Prosecutors also say Faris was asked by bin Laden associates in late 2000 to research ultralight aircraft that could be used as escape planes by al-Qaida operatives.

Ashcroft and senior FBI (news - web sites) officials wouldn't disclose details of Faris' arrest. They also would not say whether Faris was part of an active al-Qaida cell in the United States, or whether any of his activities had previously been monitored.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, the Justice Department has obtained a number of guilty pleas from or won court convictions of members of alleged al-Qaida cells, including six of seven members of an alleged cell in Lackawanna, N.Y. The Faris plea, however, is unusual in that it involves direct connections to al-Qaida plots.

Two alleged members of a radical Islamic movement allied with al-Qaida were convicted earlier this month in Detroit of providing material support and resources to the terrorist group by running an illegal document ring. One other man was acquitted in that case.

IMUS: Senator Kerry said the president lied about Weapons of Mass Destruction. Is he right?

Sen. George Allen: Senator Kerry should look at some of his own comments in the past.

Senator Allen then goes on to document Sen. Kerry's flip flops on this issue.

Hooh Hah!

IMUS has been promoting PMSNBC's nighttime schedule. Check this one out.

Friday Nite 10PM EST Garofalo Alert!

It's Back! Tonite on Scarborough Country MSNBC, America's favorite ex-celebrity turned unemployed social malcontent Janeane Garofalo will be making an appearance on the show. From the info provided by Scarborough, it does not appear that Ms. Garofalo will be apologizing to President Bush as promised. Isn't it ironic that despite her allegations of a vast right-wing conspiracy to silence her, she's still getting plenty of air time?

She's also featured in an article in the Summer 2003 Ms. Magazine where she says:
"Why should I apologize?" she said when we spent an afternoon together at a coffeehouse near her Greenwich Village apartment. "We have more looting than liberation. We protected the Ministry of Oil but not the treasures of the National Museum. We have photographs of a statue brought down and an Iraqi kissing a soldier, but meanwhile where are the weapons of mass destruction, where is democracy? So, no, I'm not apologizing, and I'm not letting them shut me up."
http://www.msmagazine.com/june03/hawkes.asp

(Our note---we wonder if she will admit that the Museum of Antiquities WAS NOT ACTUALLY LOOTED? and DOESN'T THE STREET PROTESTS IN IRAQ SEEM TO REPRESENT FREE SPEECH AND DEMOCRACY IN ACTION? or maybe she'd prefer a return to the days of rape and murder under Saddam where people could not protest freely?)

Thanks for the artical yesterday.
A very good read, I'm going to send it to my Father-in-law and have it printed up for my Dad.

As for Imus, all I was able to hear today was about Sid and Bernard's "fight". I just don't care.

BTW I did hear Bo saying that Imus would be on vacation for 2 weeks.

I've been on Lipitor for my cholesterol for about 2 years. It's come down from 240 to 165 without changing my diet much.

Didn't hear that Imus would be on vacation, but that sounds about right. He's got the little knot heads coming out to the mansion.

I've got a feeling that this fight thing between Bernard and Sid is going to turn out bad for all.
