Was that any good?

I saw Gladiator on DVD and after it was over I was left feeling like nothing really had happened, that I had just chucked 3 hours of my life into a black hole.

But other than that it was good. ;^)

I didn't even realize that was Billy Boyd as Bonden. I just googled it, and apparently a movie based on the O'Brian books is scheduled for November release with Crowe and Boyd. May be called Master and Commander (the name of the first of the books) but may draw on many books for the actual plot. This just made my day. Hooray!

I was not that interested in Gladiator either. Myranda loved it however. I dunno. She made me sit and watch it a second time because she thought I didn't pay attention well enough the first time. I didn't get into it then either. She and I usually have the same taste is movies mostly.

I didn't think Gondor was made up of men of lesser blood.

That's why Aragorn lived longer than 200 years; extended life was one of the gifts given to the Numenoreans. Even long after they were exiled, members of the royal line lived to three times the span of ordinary men.

Hi Wordsmith! Russell Crowe (Jack Aubrey), Paul Bettany (Steven Maturin), Billy Boyd (Barret Bonden), James D'Arcy (Tom Pullings) are going to be in the film version of O'Briens books, which is going to be called The Far Side of the World. It is supposed to be out November 14th. Actually, it had been scheduled to come out this summer, but apparently they think the Oscars are still worth the trouble.

I have fallen in love with the series at last, although I haved a horrible habit of 'speed reading'...I have to go back and slow the eye down in order to pick up the more important things...and then sometimes it is like reading Shakespeare...it is so grounded in the language and social situations of the time period it is set, that I ahve trouble gaining an understanding of what they are saying. Still, after the second page of "Master and Commander" I knew that I would like Aubrey. Maturin is rather funny himself, and I love learning about life on a sailing ship. Its about as close to the sea as Id like to get without actually experiencing it! (Im a woodland forest kind of gal...)

gladiator was great. The opening battle scene was definitely, ah, IMO, the best ever done until Peter Jackson and the LOTR (came along and blew em out of the water) :)

I also liked him in the movie "Proof of Life" My husband travels all over South America, and that movie kinda got me in a soft spot. I loved the character he played in it.

I'm still thinkin' of going through his sister. But I wish I knew what her thoughts would be. She knows about phone guy...didn't mean for that to happen, but it did. I'm thinkin' I might be able to use that as a lead-in. Dunno.

Sigh. If he were here all the time, it would be easier. But he basically is only here to visit family. And I don't have the guts to ask HIM out to do something, not to mention that just feels weird to me. And I don't know much about him, except that he's very, very conservative, Catholic, intelligent, and good lookin'. Very.

I liked Gladiator!

I thought there needed to be more to it. Without all the incestuous intrigue - but then there would have been no story without that - so, that's why I said "I just dunno." It wasn't all there. But, too much of stuff I didn't want to see was there.

We've got a hematologist here at the hospital that is about 5'5" blonde hair blue blue blue eyes and VERY young looking .. he's probably 30. He's a BRILLIANT doctor. I used to just laugh when he would come to the unit and sit down and start explaining something to some lil' ol woman and about half way through he explanation the would look at him and say one of two things:

1. You're eyes are soooooooo blue, or

2. Are YOU the DOCTOR??? You look so YOUNG.

It became very obvious at that point that they had not heard a WORD he'd said. lol

He finally quit wearing ANY blue shirts because they would just accentuate the eye color .. lol. I told him to grow a mustache or something.. *g*

I think that was the only part of the movie I liked. Great start. then, ..............

The jury is still out for me on Gladiator...Crowe, I thought played an excellent Roman, but he had so little to say and the film itself was so epic in spectacle that when I thought about it, it seemed like it had less substance than I expected. Kind of like Titanic...the scenery and staging was so broad in scale and so much was SHOWN that the actual dialogue and script was sparse. I got more satisfaction watching Crowe in "Proof of Life"...even if I couldn't stand Ryan's whining. She needs to stick to comedy. Crowe, however, was wonderful.
