In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

scintilla \sin-TIL-uh\, noun
scintillant; adjective

1. A tiny or scarcely detectable amount; the slightest particle; a trace
2. A spark; a flash.
3. Miniscule

In victory, they must hold on to at least a scintilla of humility, lest they get too cocky -- and ripe for a takedown.
--Bill Breen, "'We are literally trying to stop time,'" Fast Company, May 2000

Etymology: Latin scintilla, "a spark, a glimmer, a faint trace." Also from scintilla is the verb scintillate, "to sparkle."

Morning! Here's one with the word, but I just could'nt resist the other one.

Without a scintilla of brains
Or a hope of political gains
Their staffs about to be sent away
Still at the Marriot they stay.

His parents, they hated his bride
She wounded their ego and pride
He quickly turned killer
Remorse? A scintilla
They messed with his bride, so they died

Dean and Kerry
Kerry and Dean
The fans of one
Make the other's fans scream
Not a scintilla of smarts between either one
Who thought cannibalization would be this fun?

Dean fans flog blog, rip Kerry to threads

The editorial board the the biggest rag in Delaware doesn't have a scintilla of common sense when it comes to the big picture.

Biden's decision not to run for president is a disappointment

The saddest thing is that they really beieve what they print, and so do the sheeple of the state. I'm glad I'm out of there.

There was a young girl from Manila,
Whose tastes were absurdly vanilla,
On conundrum and wit,
She relied not a bit,
Not even a little scintilla!

Hi!

(Cook scintillates into the classroom after the bell rings, looks at his watch, yelps "Oh no, I'm late!", and immediately jumps up and runs out....)

" National Weather Service says they've spotted water spouts off coast near me."

I think water spouts usually pull up once they hit land. Of course the rain the drops from the cloud the water spout is in has been known to rain fish and other things that the water spout picked up at sea.... I've seen water spouts in FL before and they don't look near as scary as a tornado. They are usually really skinny too so wouldn't have as wide of a path as a regular tornado I think.

Here is a perfect example of the brainwashed sheeple of Delaware. From this morning's letters to the editor.

Europeans' opinions should be heeded
I read with interest the Sunday article about Europe, "They love us but don't like us."All of my European friends would agree with the points made by author Dean Lomis.

Europeans can't understand our conservative leanings, high crime rate, use of guns, support of capital punishment, unilateralism, disregard for the United Nations and ignorance of the world. these criticisms are much more relevant today than during the last administration, when we had a president who did understand the world and was highly respected in Europe.

Choosing Howard Dean for president would help us regain the respect of Europeans. Dean's view of leadership is based on alliances and multilateralism. He believes we should rally the world around fundamental principles of decency, responsibility, freedom and mutual respect.

I notice the writer said the bent one was respected in Europe, didn't mention about here at home.
