Posted on 08/20/2003 5:17:27 AM PDT by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

apathy; \Ap"a*thy\noun:
apathies; noun, plural
apathetic, apathetical; adjective
apathetically; adverb

1. Lack of interest or concern, especially regarding matters of general importance or appeal; indifference.
2. Lack of emotion or feeling; impassiveness.
3. Feeling or showing a lack of interest or concern; indifferent.
4. Feeling or showing little or no emotion; unresponsive.

According to the Stoics, apathy meant the extinction of the passions by the ascendency of reason.
--Fleming.

Etymology: [Latin apath a, from Greek apatheia, from apath s, without feeling : a-, without; see a-1 + pathos, feeling; see kwent(h)- in Indo-European Roots.]

Good Morning Students. Welcome to class!

Class is now in session. The rules are simple; you get a grade if you use the WFTD in a sentence, haiku, limerick, or quatrain. You get a "+" if you make a link, or make the teacher laugh, or you offer the appropriate bribes. I hold the grade book; the whip and chair.

"The tragedy behind all this is that just gradually we're escalating the hostility," Ratliff said. "The real tragedy is that it was all predictable and avoidable. But each step that's taken, just by one more step, destroys the Senate that I knew."

I don't know why this man claims to be a Republican, he's a democrat without measure. He's won't condemn the 11 whiners, and now himself joins the whine "Oh woe is me, they've hurt my wittle feelings". Perhaps if he grew some balls he wouldn't be so apathetic about what is happening to our state. But I doubt that will occur, he so wants to be loved, and he can't be loved if there are decisive issues on the table. What a coward.

Ratliff 'distraught' over redistricting, contemplates resignation

There once was a member of the GOP
Who showed such a case of apathy.
Tragedy?
It's a comedy,
Centering around losers such as he!

Morning Loney!

You would have been proud of me, I altered a recipe all on my own last night.

I made Shrimp Monterey (scallops have too many carbs in them).

i saw Terry Schiavo's parents on some FNC show. While her hub may be apathetic regarding her prospects for recovery, her family most definitely is NOT. i have no idea what the hub's problem is, but barring a PRIEST from seeing her is outrageous.
