In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

gallant \Gal*lant"\, adjective, noun:

gallantly; adverb

    1. Unflinching in battle or action; valiant: put up a gallant resistance to the attackers.
    2. Nobly or selflessly resolute: made a gallant attempt to save his friend's reputation.
  2. Stately; majestic.
    1. Courteously attentive especially to women; chivalrous.
    2. Flirtatious; amorous.
  3. A fashionable young man.
  4. A man courteously attentive to women.
    1. A woman's lover; a paramour
  5. To woo or pay court to (a lady).
  6. To play the gallant.
  7. To handle with grace or in a modish manner; Obscure

Courageous is generic, denoting an inward spirit which rises above fear; brave is more outward, marking a spirit which braves or defies danger; gallant rises still higher, denoting bravery on extraordinary occasions in a spirit of adventure. A courageous man is ready for battle; a brave man courts it; a gallant man dashes into the midst of the conflict.

Etymology: [Middle English galaunt, from Old French galant, present participle of galer, to rejoice, of Germanic origin. See wel-1 in Indo-European Roots.]

Good Morning Students. Welcome to class!

Class is now in session. The rules are simple; you get a grade if you use the WFTD in a sentence, haiku, limerick, or quatrain. You get a "+" if you make a link, or make the teacher laugh, or you offer the appropriate bribes. I hold the grade book; the whip and chair.

I looked for a story; here and there
An example extrodinaire
People Gallant
Such a want
Of liberals who truly care!

I tried to find just one story, and found to many to effectively use. So this is an open-ended white board assignment. Your teacher finds herself disgusted with the lack of gallant individuals making the news, of course, she attributes that to the fact that the damn liberals would rather show every negative story in the world, instead of showing on case of a human acting gallantly.

Gallant are those who
Do good for no other cause
Than simply, they care.

Morning!

Governor Perry shows gallantry
In dealing with the outlaw band.
With their hiding and skulking they're likely
To have overplayed their hand.

Listen

Howard Dean

Howard Dean

Howard Dean says he's running for President, and on paper he's quite a candidate.

He's the longest-serving Democratic governor. He signed the first law in the country to allow gay unions. And, he's got the endorsement of America's favorite president-that-isn't: Martin Sheen.

In real life, most Americans would pass Howard Dean on the street without a second glance. Can a candidate with just about zero national name-recognition actually make a viable run for the nation's highest office? Tonight, Howard Dean, the invisible candidate.

The rappers I hear aren’t gallant
Mostly tan, gall parading as talent
They nag tall girls—“dey ho’s”
And for poon tang—all goes
Never ask if they shall or they shall’nt

the Problem with DD is you could take a bite of the Sunday paper, and not notice the difference if it were not for the abscence of frosting.

Not only does Roy Moore march gallantly against the left, he was born and raised in the small town of Gallant, Alabama, which is located in northwest Etowah County. Coincidently, my dear departed Granny was born and raised in that same community.
