The GUILD 9-29-2003 My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Posted on 09/29/2003 10:13:55 AM PDT by Hillary's Lovely Legs

1. They were never looking for trouble.

2. But when trouble came, they faced it with courage.

3. They were always on the side of right.

4. They defended good people against bad people.

5. They had high morals.

6. They had good manners.

7. They were honest.

8. They spoke their minds and they spoke the truth, regardless of what people thought or "political correctness," which no one had ever heard of back then.

9. They were a beacon of integrity in the wild, wild West.

10. They were respected. When they walked into a saloon (where they usually drank only sarsaparilla), the place became quiet, and the bad guys kept their distance.

11. If in a gunfight, they could outdraw anyone. If in a fist fight, they could beat up anyone.

12. They always won. They always got their man. In victory, they rode off into the sunset.

What makes this so sweet is that Paul is a stroke victim and I see him around campus all the time - it is difficult for him to walk - he shuffles and appears to be in poor health. Each time I've seen him, I've thought, "There goes a great man." It is so nice to see his achievements recognized while he's still on the planet.

One of my other profs recently received the equivalent of the Noble Prize - the Crafoord Prize, given by Sweden to recognize scientific work that is outside the Nobel parameters for recognition. He's also received the prestigious Medal of Science.

The U of I is outstanding in the life sciences (and many other areas). It is great to see the University get this kind of recognition. Everyone always fawns over MI, but IL is one of the greatest state schools in the nation (and continually ranks that way, too.) It also is not a liberal bastion. We just don't have much of a football program. (Arghhh!)

Oh, and I wasn't lucky enough to be taught by him, just lucky enough to be on the same campus as he is.

Close is good enough in hand grenades and education.

Good job, and thank you for sharing this with us.

Cheers.

Watching on C-SPAN.

The young lady holding the giraffe dessert refered to them as "our French pastries for tonight."

Guess the boycott is over.

You can leave your umbrella at home, you won't be needing it. It's 54 degrees at 11:00 pm, so a sweatshirt would be a good idea.

See you tomorrow night!

Guess what guys? I'm meeting lodwick for dinner tomorrow night. He told me if I arrive first, to make myself comfortable at the bar and to order a drink and put it on his tab. I've invited a couple dozen of my very closest friends.

A full report tomorrow night when I return.

50 degrees at 6:00am this morning. Bring your Lady Bug Repelent.

Iowa has been invaded by swarms of Lady Bugs. They're everywhere, they're getting into homes, they get into your car. It's quite annoying, but it could be worse. It could be mice.

Safe Travels to ya, Bud. See you soon.

Keep those Indians and their summer going on...it's almost time to get to Houston, St.Louis, and then the DSM in some white-knuckler puddle-jumper.

Please don't ask for digital documentation of this evening, as Gran and I both are still out of that loop...

Cheers, everyone.

Ugh, those ladybugs. We get them every October, and they're mean! Thankfully, we've finally found a bug guy who knows what to do to them, and last year was the first time I go through innumerable vacuum cleaner bags sucking up a few thousand of those critters!

Good grief. Last year was the first time I didn't go through ... etc. Having a brain cramp - more coffee!

Massive BARF Alert:

BILL Clinton helped Alan Colmes on his upcoming book, "Red, White, and Liberal" (ReganBooks), after Colmes sent him the chapter titled "Bill Clinton, Our Greatest President." Clinton responded with some suggestions, claiming the Brady Law made it harder for felons to buy guns and boasting how he got more poor kids covered by Medicare. Colmes' book (in stores Oct. 21) also features chapters entitled "Jesus Was a Liberal" and "Conservatives Are Downright Mean." (PageSix)

Disgusting PETA:

Roy Horn isn’t getting any crocodile tears from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The group has fired off a letter to both members of Siegfried & Roy, saying that Horn got what was coming to him ... rest of story
