The Republicans have multiple candidates, with the party establishment rallying around state Senator Alice Forgy Kerr. As for the 'Rats, Fayette County District Attorney Margaret Kennensohn is running. I'd be surprised if Ben Chandler ran.
does that mean forgy kerr wins hands down, or are any of her opponents able to run against the 'establishment' candidate and win?
is this seat a hands down winner for us, even if chandler runs?

If I'm not mistaken, the G.O.P. will choose its nominee in a convention, which gives Kerr a large edge. As for the general election, Republicans are favored to win but not assured of victory. Especially if there is bitterness in G.O.P. ranks, or the 'Rat nominee is a moderate with strong local appeal.
It appears that Ben Chandler will run for Congress from KY-6. Veteran Courier-Journal columnist Al Cross declared the news this past Sunday in an editorial. Fletcher announced that the special election would be held on Feb. 17. This means several things. The longer the time before the special election, the better chance state Senator Alice Forgy Kerr has to overcome Chandler's name recognition and relatively high popularity in the district. Chandler will certainly be a dynamic candidate for the Dems, but he will be crushed under the weight of the power of Senator McConnell and Governor Fletcher who have vowed to pour millions into the race. Chandler will be vastly outspent, and he need not look to the state Democratic Party for money because they are broke. The road contractors stopped giving the KY Dem party money when it appeared Ernie Fletcher would win the Governor's race. This will be a close one, but certainly one Senator Kerr can win for us with the right campaign.
