Dear FReepers,

As you know, in 2004 Georgians will go to the polls to replace retiring United States Senator Zell Miller. Senator Miller has served our state with distinction and upheld the values Georgians share. I am supporting Mr. Herman Cain as Senator Miller’s replacement, and I’d like to tell you why.

Herman Cain has over 35 years of successful business experience, holding such positions as Chairman, CEO and President of Godfather’s Pizza, Chairman, CEO and President of the National Restaurant Association, Chairman and President of the Tax Leadership Council of Americans For Fair Taxation and he serves on the Boards of Directors of various companies.

In addition to his business experience, Herman is an Associate Minister at Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta, the author of three books on leadership and self-empowerment and a Trustee at Morehouse College, his alma mater.

I am supporting Herman because he knows that we must boldly address our nation’s problems. He is not interested in incremental changes to the big issues that must be fixed immediately. Herman wants to replace the current income tax code with a national sales tax that will unleash the full potential of our economy and create more opportunities for all Americans. He wants to restructure the Social Security system, by keeping the promise to our parents and grandparents, but also allowing younger workers to invest in alternative plans. Herman also wants to reduce government interference in the health care industry. All Georgians will have access to affordable, quality care when we end frivolous lawsuits and remove the barriers that prevent a doctor and patient to decide the patient’s best health care choices.

Herman Cain supports a strong national defense and President Bush’s dedication to homeland security, and believes that our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms must be vigorously protected. Herman believes that life begins at conception, and he will fight hard to save the lives of unborn children.

#2 Zell Miller was and IS an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Where does YOUR guy stand on this? If the question were put to him, would he re-authorize the AWB? So many folks who profess to be "pro-gun" won't stand up for all of our rights! GWB is an example.

I wanted to favor Cain. I think it's a must that we recruit strong black candidates to run for office. But Cain is making the same mistake that many businessmen before him have made, such as Huffington. The language of business does not translate well to politics, though we may believe it should. To win elections, we must be sensitive to what works- and based on the ad I saw on Cain's website, it will not cut it. I would be glad to elaborate if anyone wants me to.

Cain, in his video, repeatedly talked about how great the private sector is. It was a business motivational talk. For people who buy into the private sector 100%, that's fine. But most Americans have reservations about it- and temper their enthusiasm with capitalism with a need for some regulation and punishment for corporate chieftans. It was a speech that would get fortune 100 executives on their feet but leave the average American working family empty. It didn't discuss their concerns about creating jobs, defending the nation, and shoring up social security. That is a fatal mistake. I share Cain's view and would love to have a cheerleader for capitalism elected. But he hasn't gained an appreciation for what ordinary Americans want to hear from politicians.

Are you saying that most people (in Georgia, mind you) want politicians to conduct politics as usual?

I'll agree to some extent that Cain will need to broaden his message...but the primary is still a ways away and he's not running for President of The USA...not yet at least!

I disagree with that statement...and the trend continues in Cain's direction. Look at NH, they just elected Craig Benson as Governor...zero political experience, straight out of the business world.

Initially I favored Mac Collins. But, after reading more about Herman Cain, I say he is the man! Georgia is not California. We don't need to nominate a wishy-washy moderate like Isakson to win. We can afford to elect a real conservative like Herman Cain. The first African-American Senator (that be Cain) from the Peach State could teach Capital Hill Republicans on how to be conservative.

Well I was thinking about having a FReeper get together after the Christmas/New Years thing is out of our system. If we can come up with a time and a central location, maybe invite Cain to attend. A good time would be in March.

If Americans showed as much rage over government accounting fraud as they do for corporate fraud, we would be living in a totally different world. Most people do like the mafia-type status of the government. They know that the government will help them, and so they tolerate what would otherwise be considered to be criminal.

In Herman Cains speeches before Republican breakfasts and other groups he usually has a very short time frame to make his point so he keeps it to three concise points. One of them is his plan to "restructure the Social Security system, by keeping the promise to our parents and grandparents, but also allowing younger workers to invest in alternative plans." This and the other two, taxes and health care, were covered quite well in the excellent article above by NewLand. After his speech there is usually a question and answer session where he handles all kinds of questions and comes across as a true conservative Republican. Rest assured that he has a plan for everything from a strong military, to controlling illegal aliens, to the war against terrorists, to the right to bear arms.

You Libertarians may have some problems with parts of his platform, but conservative Republicans are gonna love him.

Please include me on this list. I have been volunteering for a few weeks now and this campaign is just now picking up steam. I believe it could steam roll Herman Cain right into this Georgia Senate seat, underdog or not. I was by the campaign office today and this thing is about to take off. If you want on this ride you'd better grab hold.

Herman Cain is solidly pro-gun. From his website..."Herman Cain believes that our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms must be vigorously protected." Cain noted: "I grew up before we were told guns would get up and do all these bad things and I believe strongly in the 2nd Amendment," he said. "My father was a chauffeur who had to protect his employer as well as drive him. So he carried a gun. And if you were black in South Georgia in the 1950’s and drove a big car, you’d better have had a gun!"

FUTHERMORE, Hermain Cain is strongly and unapologetically pro-life. And he has ALWAYS been that way. Where does YOUR hero Zig Zag Zell stand on this?

Oh yeah, Zig Zag was elected for DECADES as a "pro-choice" candidate, wasn't he?

But that's not a big deal, is it? Much better to have a pro-abortion, pro-gay "rights", pro-CFR "centrist" Democrat who TALKS a good game, eh?

First of all, I'm a "single issue" guy. Yeah, I'm personally pro-life, but if a candidate is pro choice and pro-gun and has the track record to prove it like Zell Miller, then he's got my vote. Because talk is cheap. Anybody can claim to be pro-gun because they were raised around guns. Clinton was raised around guns, so were a lot of anti-gun whackos. Heck, Kerry went bird hunting a few weekends ago. So what? How do you know Zell is pro CFR? He's not a member of that group. Unless you're referring to campaign finance reform and not the Council on Foreign Relations?
