(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Democratic Congressman Brad Carson has more than $1-million in his war chest for the race to succeed Senator Don Nickles.

Meanwhile, Republican Kirk Humphreys has raised more than 550-thousand dollars for the Senate race in just two months.

Humphreys, former mayor of Oklahoma City, surpassed his goal of raising 400-thousand dollars by the end of the year. Humphreys' campaign manager, Josh Kivett, says that after expenses, Humphreys finished the year with about $425,000 in the bank.

Carson had $342,000 in his House re-election account before Nickles announced his retirement in October.

Humphreys has received fund-raising help from Nickles and Senator Jim Inhofe, both Republicans.

The GOP must take Carson seriously. Thankfully they've convalased around Humphreys rather quickly. Bush should pop in at least once for a photo-op with Humphreys to ensure he bumps him over the top.

Ahem. Convalesced? That's an interesting and poetic usage, now that I think about it. However: coalesced, shall we say? :)

This is going to be a really tough race. I am worried that Carson just might win this race. Anyone from Oklahoma have any insight in how our candidate is going to do? The D have a financial advantage is not a good thing especially with only a little more than 10 months until election day.

Brad Carson has a built-in fundraising advantage because of his unspent House campaign funds and access to Washington D.C. money. Kirk Humphreys fundraising has been respectable. But what he really needs is for Bush and Cheney to do some fundraising dinners for him.

This will probably be close unless Dean's negative coattails are dangling in the mud, but I don't see Carson making it over the hump.

To think, 2 rats named "Brad"......ick
