Providence, RI: Republican Congressional candidate and former U.S. Navy SEAL Dave Rogers announced the launch of his website today. http://www.Rogers2004.com

Dave Rogers is challenging Congressman Patrick Kennedy in his bid to represent Rhode Island’s 1st district in the United States House of Representatives.

Rogers, 38, a decorated combat veteran and former U.S. Navy SEAL, lives in Portsmouth with his wife Nancy and their two children Patrick, 9 and Scott, 7. Rogers won a three way primary and was the Republican nominee for RI-1 in 2002.

Yup, Patches sits in one of the most Democratic House seats in the nation---it gave Bush like 30% in 2000 (although Bush might get 40% in 2004), and it's not like it's a black-majority district where a black Republican who can get 35% of the black vote can suddenly become competitive. This is a real tough one for us to win, and I wish Dave Rogers the best. He's got to hit Patrick Kennedy hard on national security, abortion and gay marriage.

Another underdog, but one with a much better chance of defeating an extreme liberal Congressman, is this guy running against Dennis Kucinich in his Cleveland-based CD (which gave Bush 43% in 2000 and will likely give him 48% in 2004):

I helped him a little in his 2002 race. The National Defense PAC supported him. The primary ate up a lot of his money, but he is back with a bigger war chest. His district has two fairly distinct areas; one Republican and the other Democrat. The Democrat one has a larger population base, but if Dave can maximize turnout, and get the Democrats a little apathetic about Patsy K., he will win.
