I don't know much about Pfeiffer, but maybe he can pull it off.

No one else seems to be willing to step up and challenge Bingaman, so we could do a lot worse than Pfeffer. If he can do reasonably well in his home base of Santa Fe (rthe most heavily Democrat part of New Mexico), it would go a long way towards pulling off an upset.

There's a token, perinnial candidate running, and two unsuccessful 2002 gubenatorial candidates are considering it.

Sometimes, an interesting candidate with a flair for publicity can exceed expectations. I think that Pfeiffer has the potential to be such a candidate.

I can't figure out why Bingamin seems to skate through without ever having a credible challenger.

How about electing a Conservative Republican instead?

No more RINOs!

I'm guessing that Bingaman likely provides good constituent services and talks a different tune when he returns back to New Mexico. Plus, NM is not a real heavy GOP state. It has a huge chunk of Dem voters that makes it competitive.

You can never under-estimate the good constituent services angle. It kept Tom Daschle in office many years longer than he should have been.

Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad (in North Dakota) are other examples of red state Democrats who always seem to get re-elected.

There is usually no believer stronger then the convert.

i.e. Norm Coleman, Zell Miller.

Good point. In fact, some compare Pfeiffer to former Senator Ben Campbell (R-CO), another party-switcher.

I sure hope he does run. I'll contact him and help him in my country, which is also heavily RAT infested. Bingaman is basically useless. He's as exciting as a worm.

Just as long as he doesn't vote like Groucho's ugly and untalented cousin Karl, I'm sure he'll do.

Since you live in NM, I have a question: Are elections for the Santa Fe City Council by district or at large?

The city council is by district, as far as I know. I don't live in Santa Fe but that's how it was when my dad was a city councilman.
