This is one of the second-tier races where the underdog may pull off an upset at the last minute. In nearly every election, there are one or more such statewide races.
ANY NEW MEXICO FREEPERS CARE TO COMMENT?
Is this Bingaman's seat?
Yes, it is. Jeff Bingaman has never faced a strong opponent, unless you count then-Sen. Harrison Schmidt, whose innacurate TV ads contributed to his own defeat.
I've never understood Bingaman's appeal in that state. He's rather workmanlike and doesn't venture into the spotlight that much. Plus a great deal of New Mexico's population is Hispanic, so what appeal does he hold for them? Just long term incumbency, perhaps?
Just now I remembered that King of the Hill episode where Bill dated Khans mother, and to stop her from dating him, Khan told Bill that his mom dated Harrison Schmidt.
What was that about? You'd think a high profile incumbent senator an former astronaut who was the last person to walk on the moon would have had a better campaign.
Does this guy have any kind of chance to win?
He has a shot, though Bingaman starts out as the favorite.
