DOBBS: Let's talk about another oath. The Senate...
FRANKEN: Yes?
DOBBS: Minnesota, are you going to run?
FRANKEN: I don't know. Actually, we're deciding, I think, this weekend, the family, my family.
DOBBS: OK, I'll give you the number, and I want you to let me know immediately.
FRANKEN: I think if I tell someone, it might be somebody in Minnesota.
DOBBS: You've got it. All right. Well, we wish you a lot of luck. Look forward to your decision. FRANKEN: Thank you.
DOBBS: Whatever you do, stay yourself. Those people...
FRANKEN: No, I'm going to change, Lou. If I run, I'm going to change.
DOBBS: See, there's your new campaign slogan.
FRANKEN: That's right. Not the same old Al. DOBBS: Thank you very much. Still ahead, the results of our poll. Stay with us.

According to the transcript from Lou Dobbs' show, it sounds like he'll be making the decision this weekend.
As a Minnesotan, I hope he does. I really do. Norm Coleman's research staff will be so over-worked trying to decide how best the use the wealth of material against Franken.
BTW, does it sound like Dobbs is hoping that Franken runs? It sounds that way to me. I thought Dobbs was a Republican.
Opinions or comments - anyone?
WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC'S MINNESOTA PING LIST!!!
60 MEMBERS AND GROWING...!!!
LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ON OR OFF THIS LIST!!!
Just when you thought the collective IQ of the elected democrats could not get any lower.
You want Franken to run. Are we to think you're a Democrat? ;)
Dobbs loves Pelosi so does that answer your question.
Funny how I always wind up commenting on MN politics and I don't even live there.
Finish reading the remainder of my post before you comment...
Coleman will win relection in a rout.
I didn't know that Dobbs was a big Pelosi fan. That DOES explain a lot!
If you want, I'll put you on my Minnesota PING List. FreepMail me if interested.
If he does run, he will have finally done something funny.

It's a target-rich environment for political commentary. Unfortunately, assclowns like Franken, Dayton, Ventura, Garrison Keilor, Keith-X, and the rest make the rest of us here look like idiots.
Don't be so hard on yourselves. You've got Norm Coleman, who despite being off on a couple of issues, is great considering what state he represents.
Then you got Tim Pawlenty who I think is fantastic, well atleast until the healthcare thing.
You've got Michelle Bachmann elected in MN-6 who is so good she might be habit forming.
Your state has come along way since it was the only one not to vote for Reagan in 1984.
Unlike my state, Ohio, which is swinging in reverse.
Sure you got Ellison, but we got Dennis "Department of Peace" Kucinich.
Election was two weeks ago!!!!!
You know, you're absolutely right.
While Minnesota may not have the Cynthia McKinney types, there are plenty of others that can be just as much of an embarrassment.
I was never so glad to Jesse "The A**wipe" Ventura leave office. His four years in office were terrible. He had the attention span of a puppy on meth and the political instincts of Sid Vicious.
His election in 1998 was a fluke. As Joe Soucheray put it "It was a fraternity prank that went bad".
Jesse's four years could be best paraphrased from JFK's inaugural address "Ask not what Jesse Ventura can do for you - ask what you can do for Jesse Ventura".
As for Garrison Keillor, my eyes reflexively roll upwards everytime his name is mentioned - verbally or in print.
I cannot wait! Tell us, Al, about your success at Air America, or how you looted an orphan's charity to make your megabucks.
LOL!
Nice photoshopping!
May he have the same success he had on his radio show...
Not my creation, but nice indeed.
Oh please, oh please, please please please run. That would be so amusing!
He'll probably run, but will he make it through the primary? The DFL has to know that they've got a fair to middling chance of knocking off Norm Coleman in this bluest of blue states and may prefer a local candidate to a border-line carpetbagger.
Let me point out that this time in 2006 people were saying the same about Santorum, DeWine and Allen.
I'm not even sure that Franken could win the party endorsement - let alone win the primary.
There are several other Dems looking at the race. They have better credentials than Franken and don't carry his obvious baggage.
Coleman is a gem in the Senate.
A real statesman.
Uh, this is "this time in 2006".
Undoubtedly, he sees the writing on the wall. This would be a convenient excuse for him to get out in front of the inevitable AA collapse.
Texas dodged a bullet with Jessie's' pal Kinky. I would have died of embarrassment if Kinky Freidman had become governor of Texas.
Oops. 2004.
";)" meant I was poking fun. But, I'm willing to see where this is going.
Why would you think I didn't read your entire post before I commented? My quote included the beginning and the end of your post. (Okay, one thing remained: "Opinions or comments - anyone?"; is that what you wanted me to finish reading?)
Maybe I missed something. So, I went back and reread your post. I stand by my original reply. What did I miss?
We definately have our moments up here don't we?
As distastelful as it ends up being, Minnesotans tend to balance out our politics (at least as long as I've been up here). You had Rod Grams and the little commie Wellstone for awhile and couldn't be more polar opposites. Grams gets knocked out by Dayton and Coleman won Wellstone's seat (and would have even if he didn't die in that horrible crash - RIP).
Even when sending lefties to DC we still tend to elect Republicans to the govenorship (Jesse aside)...its pretty baffling.
We've got ditzy Amy now in there for Dayton...on theory alone Coleman will crush Franken.
What I can't figure out about many independent candidates is their flakiness.
I'm not sure if flaky is the right word. Maybe it is.
But these candidates seem to run more as a stunt than because they're serious about the issues. Many of them seem less than grounded on the issues.
Their candidacies seem to be "Look At Me! Look At Me!" more so than any discussion of what they stand for and what the issues are.
One recent report stated he was leaving Error America by December 12.
Really? Interesting.
I hadn't heard that.
Bears repeating. There is a reason we were the 1984 anomoly - DFL was once allied with the Commies in its past.( Powerline blog going over the book describing this.)
And if Minnesota loves to do one thing (besides following half ass pro teams in Minneapolis), it's vote DFL.
STUART SMALLEY RUNS FOR SENATE!!! What a joke.
IMHO, if he does run, he'll get primary opposition.
I read Haynes' book about 15 years ago.
It was a classic.
You can probably still find it in many Minnesota libraries.
I'd encourage you to read it if you can.
COOL! That's one Senate seat we'll win, for sure!
For some reason when I see Al Franken's name I see Al Farakan, I don't really know why, but he seems like appeaser.
I didn't think lunatics could just "change".
