Rudy Giuliani: Right Man. Right Time (editorial)
Red State ^ | May 3, 2007 | Steve Forbes

Posted on 05/03/2007 10:33:31 AM PDT by Clintonfatigued

I think Rudy Giuliani will be a superb president. There are many reasons I support Mayor Giuliani's candidacy – his leadership after September 11th, his turning around of New York City and his fight against crime – but what I most admire is his record of fiscal conservatism.

As Mayor, Rudy Giuliani cut taxes 23 times while turning a $2.3 billion dollar deficit into a $2.9 billion surplus. He saved taxpayers more than $11 billion by controlling the projected growth of city-funded spending, and he created a smaller, more efficient government by cutting the number of full-time city-funded jobs by nearly 20%, excluding cops on the street and teachers in the classroom.

When Americans choose their next president they need a proven leader who can get things done. Rudy Giuliani is that leader. Like I mentioned in a recent op-ed I wrote, Rudy Giuliani is not afraid of trying to do big things. He successfully tackled the welfare mess in New York City, even before the Welfare Reform Act of 1996. By the time he was through, welfare rolls had been cut nearly 60%. It's clear Rudy Giuliani is not afraid to pursue major structural changes, even in the face of the conventional wisdom and an entrenched status quo political establishment.

Moreover, Rudy Giuliani realizes no issue is more important to our nation's security than winning the terrorists war on us. He is the man to keep our country on offense, not defense.

Well, I think Rudy G will split the GOP. His presidency would be a train wreck worse than Jimmy Carter.

The speculation about Fred Thompson has taken some wind out of Giuliani’s sails, but he’s still in the game.

I think Rudy - vs. - Mitt - vs. - Fred is where we are headed.

I like it - we have putting forward a very solid set of candidates.

We just need (in my opinion) Hillary to carry the Dems nomination.

I think she will be easy to defeat - I really do.

but what I most admire is his record of fiscal conservatism.

No politician who wants taxpayers to pay for abortions can be considered a fiscal conservative in any way, shape or form. Forbes is a liar.

Honest answer - a simple lack of intolerance for opposing views.

Very very sad to see this kind of thing inside the GOP.

This idea that you must conform your dialog or you will be cut out - it’s contrary to everything I have been taught about political discourse.

What can anyone learn from people who think the same way on the issues?

Really sad to see this happen.

FR is such a great sight - so many smart people.

Moreover, Rudy Giuliani realizes no issue is more important to our nation's security than winning the terrorists war on us. He is the man to keep our country on offense, not defense.

Along with "Only Rudy can beat Hillary", this is another false direction.

Our greatest threat is not from foreign terrorists. They cannot defeat this nation.

This nation's biggest threat is our own people, especially those in governement who take away liberty to provide safety.

We have to concentrate on candidates who are concerned about personal libery and free enterprise. when we have those, no terrorist can conquer us.

“Openness to liberal views is hardly a virtue.”

There’s a difference between openness to supporting a public official and openness to liberal views. Not the same thing.

And while I am not committed to Giuliani, he has achieved conservative results as Mayor and U.S. Attorney. That can’t be denied.

That is not an honest answer.

It was a mass exodus and some of the rudest ones decided to show their true colors. Here’s the famous thread.

Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?

Another dishonest answer. Why do you have to lie? If you grieve over the process, take it up with JimRob. And if you’re unhappy here, there’s now a new website we can recommend. So deal with whatever it is inside causing all that turmoil and stop lying.

Why don’t you stop with the personal attacks and try to support whichever candidate you like in the race?

There’s plenty of rudy supporters still on FR, but the rude ones have been smoked, and if you keep this garbage up you’ll probably get booted as well. So, settle down and discuss issues. If you can’t, why not just leave right now, you’re so unhappy with Free Republic.

Jim, I have a question about Free Republic.

There used to be a blurb that said something like, “NO Profanity, NO racism, NO personal attacks” or something like that, right there below the posting screen. I don’t see it any more. Has there been a change in policy?

Considering how far left NYC was and is, that Rudy accomplished some conservative results is no surprise.

Are they enough to qualify him as POTUS, considering most of his liberal views, stances, and actions? Not even close.

I like em all.

Let’s see..

Rudy - my #1 pick right now - SOLID Leader - can only be bumped by Fred Thompson

Mitt - outstanding business man - bit of a political novice on the national stage - has the slow creep possibility

McCain - no (I lied) he is unstable and not worthy of POTUS - I do NOT like him at all - but I do admire his life story.

Duncan - nice man - weak personality will kill him - great on border security - solid on defense -

Sam - good man - no chance

Ron Paul - good man - no appeal on the national stage - solid on issues

Tommy - great Governor - not well known - building resume and VP possibilities - admits that himself

Huckabee - Nice man - good Governor - lousy on Gonzales - sick of hearing about his weight

Jim Gilmore - good Governor - no national appeal - lost his office to a dem - that will hurt him -

I see this as Rudy-vs.-Mitt-vs.Fred in the end

I see that coming down to Rudy-vs.-Fred

I think Fred will carry the party majority and could easily win the nomination.

How’s that?

And thank you for asking.
