Aurora dairy magnate Jim Oberweis is considering running for U.S. Congress, but only if incumbent Dennis Hastert decides not to seek re-election.
"I would do everything I can to carry on Denny's legacy," Oberweis said this week at a Kendall County Republican Party meeting where he announced for the first time that he plans to form an exploratory committee.
Oberweis listed "controlling expenditures, making sure our dollars are spent wisely and rooting out corruption" among his legislative priorities.

At the same meeting, Terri Wintermute, a Bolingbrook Republican who lost the 42nd district state Senate seat to Linda Holmes last year, announced she would run for the office again.
The speaker's seat
Though a mix of Republican heavyweights have expressed interest in succeeding Hastert, the former House speaker, only state Sen. Chris Lauzen, R-Aurora, has formed an exploratory committee.

Jim Oberweis is a chamelian who will say anything to get elected. Chris Lauzen is the real conservative choice.
Oberweis sounds like a certain failed one-term ex-Governor from Ratsachusetts.
Hastert’s endorsement is not good in light of his pork spending ways and irresponsible actions regarding Mark Foley.
Anyway, Oberweis does have a loyal following among the anti-illegal immigrant crowd. So he should be considered a serious candidate for the House. My main fear is that Lauzen and Oberweis would split the conservative vote and allow a RINO to slip through.
Kirk’s sch-tick as a “Post-Partisan” Republicans has played well in his Dem trending district.

I agree. IMHO, Oberweis has had his chances multiple times. He should step aside and endorse Chris Lauzen.
Unfortunately, conservatives are not team players. Time after time, they leave openings for RINOs in exactly this way.
I don’t get why Oberweis doesn’t run for Lauzen’s State Senate seat...
In 2006, St. Sen. Lauzen was elected to a four-year term. I hope that Rep. Hastert will retire and that Oberweis will help Lauzen’s congressional campaign. After Lauzen is elected to congress, Oberweis should be appointed to replace Lauzen, in the state senate.
