Thompson says he'll be here (New Hampshire) often... also takes a jab at Mitt

"Reminded that on a visit several months ago, he said he'd be in New Hampshire "early and often," Thompson answered, "I was early then, and now I'll be often."...
"Thompson, who helped guide the nomination of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts through the Senate, said he would appoint judges who interpret the law and Constitution as written. He said he will have a strong national defense policy and a free-market approach to the economy.
Earlier today, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney labeled Thompson a "Freddie-come-lately on the immigration issue."
Thompson criticized Romney for supporting President Bush's immigration plan. "Surprisingly, he's changed his position on that," Thompson said, in a reference to critics charges that Romney changes his mind on issues to fit the mood of the day, or the condition of his candidacy.
He said a version that Romney now opposes is stronger than the original.
"If you want to talk about a Johnny-come-lately, I believe the governor is going to have to address that little point." (OUCH!!!!!)
Thompson said that during his time in the U.S. Senate he voted with a large majority of Republicans on immigration bills."

I have to laugh at Mitt Romney criticizing Fred Thompson on illegal immigration (can you say Community Lawn Service with it's illegal Guatemalan immigrants working on his estate?) and his support for shamnesty and such: http://www.alipac.us/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=1737

If you want to win in NH, start promising more pork for the ‘live free off of pork or die’ state. Be good as gold.

MA Troopers had relied on illegal workers
'Governor Mitt Romney is pushing to give state troopers the authority to enforce federal immigration laws so they can arrest those who are here illegally. But records indicate the State Police has relied for years on a company to clean its barracks and headquarters that has employed scores of undocumented immigrants.'
This makes the job for the troopers real easy. Show up to work, pour a cup of joe, grab the guy who just finishing cleaning the head and lock him up. Way to go Mitt...always thinking..

Sounds very familiar. Must be something in the water in Massachusetts.

Not a vote has been cast yet, and you are already buying into the media’s lies and distortions! Fred has a better than even chance of being the nominee, no matter what the “Beltway Boys” happen to think!! Do you really think a republican can win the White House without the solid South? Do you think Rudy or Mitt will win in Dixie? Have you ever been to the South?

Frankly, no matter who the nominee is, I'd be surprised if he picks anyone currently running for President as his running mate.

I’m glad Fred got to NH to register, and I hope he does well there, but I am concerned about the seeming arrogance of the NH voters who seem to believe they are entitled to lots of campaign money and attention by divine right, and woe to those who do not grovel to them. I want Fred to do well there, I just hope he stays consistant and lets them know he won’t change his message to pander to them.

Frankly, no matter who the nominee is, I'd be surprised if he picks anyone currently running for President as his running mate. Hunter would be strong. Other than that, I think he picks a governor.
To: Texas Federalist
My money's on Tim Pawlenty if Fred is the nominee. He makes sense geographically, and I also think he's a reasonably good pick despite his McCain ties.
Rudy seems to be going after Mark Sanford pretty strongly. There were rumors recently that Sanford was going to endorse Giuliani, but I think he's going to wait before he endorses anyone. If Sanford is open to the idea, it would make a lot of sense for Rudy to pick him. He'd probably be on Romney's short list as well.
As for Hunter, while I'm sure it'd please a lot of Freepers, I just don't see it happening unless he makes a surprise showing in the primaries, if he even makes it to the primaries. Despite a lot of assertions seen on this forum, I strongly doubt he would have any chance of delivering California, which would be his main selling point.
He could dispel those doubts, of course, with a strong showing in the California primaries. He has to make it to Super Tuesday first, though. I'll be generous and give him a one in three chance of still being in the race by then.

Check intrade odds. It’s not a distortion. Oddsmakers now have Fred’s odds at winning back in single digits.
“Do you think Rudy or Mitt will win in Dixie? Have you ever been to the South?”
I live in Texas. Yes, Texas can vote for Romney, we’ve voted for candidates less conservative than Romney - G W Bush for example, who is not as conservative as Romney. Romney is within a few points of the lead in SC, actually ARG poll had him ahead even.

IIRC Intrade is now forbidden to American citizens (illegal Internet gambling and all that), therefore it is now driven by foreign nationals (mostly Brits, from what I hear). Anyone know if that is true? If so, it would explain a lot...

Intrade market reflects assessments of people who will put money where their mouth is regarding who wins the nomination. Such markets accurately reflect chances.
In June, they assessed Fred had a 30% chance of winning, but now its down to under 10%.
Why is it less now then before he announced? His campaign has underwhelmed many. Fred is now in single digits in NH, 4th or 5th, and taking jabs at Mitt won’t be enough to bring that up.

My point is that the prediction odds are credible assessments of the state of odds. Whatever the Federal laws, it looks like many in the US trade there ... “Incorporated in Ireland, Intrade has been featured on CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg, Fox, Fortune & others.”
Rudy has odds at 39%, Romney at 29%, Thompson at 9%
