Stivers jumps into Columbus congressional race Posted by Sabrina Eaton November 05, 2007 15:59PM GOP State Senator Steve Stivers of Columbus today announced that he'll seek the congressional seat that will be vacated by the retirement of GOP Rep. Deborah Pryce of Upper Arlington.
In a press release that announced his candidacy, Stivers criticized the partisanship and bickering in Washington, as well as a new tax plan floated by Democrats that Stivers called a "$3.5 trillion tax increase."
Stivers and his fiance, Karen Tabor, are scheduled to be married later this month. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio State University, and served in Iraq, Kuwait, Quatar and Djibouti as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Ohio Army National Guard.
"When called to duty in the Middle East, I answered the call," said Stivers. "Now, residents of Central Ohio, my party and my nation are calling me to service."
Stivers will likely face Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy in next year's election. Kilroy lost a 2006 contest against Pryce by just 1,062 votes. Her campaign had more than $300,000 in the bank at the end of September, Federal Election Commission reports show.

Stivers is a reluctant candidate, but he’s a feasible one. The GOP no longer has to write this race off.
I hope he’s a viable candidate. Any indication if he’s a Taftite ?
Probably is like everyone in Cbus.
Not Ken Blackwell. ;-)

Stivers is a typical central Ohio RINO (socially liberal, only slightly right-of-center on economics). But his opponent in the race is an absolute Marxist, pro-union, hardcore-secularist feminazi moonbat in the mold of Madame Hitlery.
So for those conservatives living in CD-15, it looks like another nose-holding vote for the lesser of two evils.
Posting #6 should answer your question, unfortunately. However, Stivers is a veteran, too.
Lovely.
Any chance of a primary opponent?
Good luck to him.
If you haven’t noticed.....this business of democracy usually involves choices that don’t involve 100% of your views...so it behooves one to vote for the candidate that reflects the most accurate reflection of your views......
Sorry to say, we're toast on this one. The 15th has gone completely over to the dark side.
I'm voting for Bill Todd tomorrow, but I know what's going to happen there, too.
Hopefully he can pull it off. Sounds like our best bet. If we can pull off the upset and at least hold even in 2008 in the House, I think come 2010 we should be in good position to take it back. And though he is a RINO, he is probably the best fit for this district. Deborah Pryce was pretty RINOy herself.
Such is the "joy" of living in a crappy blue metropolitan area.
Indeed...you and me both!
I would love it if we could draft Linda Reidelbach, but so far no indication of any interest on her part.
Me too, but from the Dispatch on up, they would portray her as Ann Coulter's mother.
LOL! No doubt. Local media malcontents have always hated her...like a pack of rabid chihuahuas yapping at her heels. Linda's effectiveness as a legislator has vexed them for the last decade-plus :)
He’s apparently pretty good on gun rights.
Mary Jo is an out and out socialist.
Yep.
Really? Well that's definitely encouraging, at least.
» Mary Jo is an out and out socialist.
Yes. And let it be known (lest anyone misinterpret my #6 comment above) I do think we need to support Stivers, if he's our guy in this race. A military vet with at least some inclination toward capitalism is vastly preferable to a Stalinist harpie who could become Columbus' very own Nancy Pelosi. «shudder!»
How secure will his State Senate seat be.
Is there a chance that it will be lost to the Dims when he vacates it?
Was he term limited anyway?
Ted Celeste has had his eye on Stivers' seat for quite a while. And he might win it. Ever since I saw all those "Upper Arlington for Kerry" lawn signs back in '04, I realized this wasn't your father's Republican district anymore.
I checked out Ted Celestes website. The dont come much more Liberal than him.
