State Rep. Bob Latta narrowly defeated a like-minded conservative rival yesterday following a rancorous campaign to represent the GOP in the heavily Republican congressional district vacated by the late Paul Gillmor.
Latta, receiving more than 32,000 votes, or roughly 44 percent, defeated State Sen. Steve Buehrer, who received just under 29,400 votes, or 40 percent, according to unofficial returns with 100 percent of precincts reporting.
Latta will now face Democrat Robin Weirauch, who cruised to victory in the Democratic primary, in the Dec. 11 general election. In the 2006 election, Weirauch received the most votes in her party's history in the 5th District which has been held by a Republican since the 1930s.

&%*$)#_! RINO WON THE PRIMARY!!!!!!!!!!!
Just great, and no Club for Growth money for the general election.
Bob Latta will be joining Jean Schmidt in the US Congress after rubberstamping the giant Taft tax hike of 2003.
It looks that way.
Too bad. But he’d better get his $hit together once he hits DC.
...presuming he doesn’t lose the special election, that is. We know how RINOs have a nasty habit of depressing Republican turnout.
I’m not sure that he’s a liberal.
He did fail to buck the party back in 2003 when they passed the biggest tax hike in Ohio history.
That was a shame.
Honestly, didn’t he have a lot more name recognition? I know little about this district.
As a matter of fact, Latta is a lot better-known, having nearly won in 1988 and his father having been Congressman for 30 years.
