Romney’s Mass. Health Plan has $50 Co-pay for Abortions

Presidential candidate Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee Senator and Law & Order actor, slammed Mitt Romney for supporting and signing into law the Massachusetts Health Plan that allows for women to have an abortion with no restrictions for a $50 co-pay. Columnist David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network, whose founder Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Giuliani, a pro-choice candidate, for president, analyzes the contradictions of Romney’s abortion stance.

Brody writes that “the problem that Romney continues to have on abortion is that it’s hard for him to criticize Giuliani, Thompson or anybody else on the issue because he has his own baggage. He can’t really hit back without hurting himself. The Thompson campaign needs to hope that the anti-Romney contingent actually come out and vote for Thompson. The National Right to Life endorsement helps him.”

In response to the Thompson attack, the Romney campaign claims that the governor could not do anything to cancel the policy of the $50 co-pay for an abortion. But Thompson pointed out that a law requires a representative from Planned Parenthood, an abortion service provider, sits on the MassHealth advisory board, but Gov. Romney made no such requirement for a representative from the pro-life movement.

Romney’s response is feeble at best. Blame it on somebody else, always a good choice./S

Leadership? No way.

He can’t really hit back without hurting himself.

The eternal catch 22 of hypocrites like Romney.

Well, what do you expect those who can’t afford to have abortions to do? HUH? Shove them off on the backs of the taxpayers? HUH? Romney’s plan is conservative! CONSERVATIVE CONSERVATIVE CONSERVATIVE!

What if you need an abortion while hitting a telephone poll with your car? Are the taxpayers just supposed to pay for that? When will you stop mooching off the taxpayers!!?!?!?!?

And what of the abortionists? Without Romney’s plan, they’d be working for FREE! Is it conservative to let them work for free? Some ‘free market’ guy you are if you’d have people performing medical procedures for free! Can’t you understand a free market system when you see one??

The plan is conservative! CONSERVATIVE, I TELL YOU!!!

...allows for women to have an abortion with no restrictions for a $50 co-pay.

So Romney's plan is one big fat long-term subsidy for the abortion industry. (Oh, and guess what? Romney ensured that he didn't veto the section that makes Planned Parenthood as one agent among many overseeing operation of this plan)

But he's "pro-life" and his FREEPER defenders will tell you they are "pro-life."
