In an obvious effort to diminish Huck, Fred gets off a line he wants Iowans to chew on in the weeks ahead:
Citing a face-off with America's enemies, Thompson asks: "Who do you want sitting on our side representing you?
"That ought to be who you elect president."
Then, in an attempt to put his foot down on debate silliness, he refused to play along on the raise-your-hand-if line of questioning on global warming.
"I’m not doing handshows today," Thompson said to applause.
Not offered a full minute to respond, Thompson said, "Well, then I'm not going to answer it."

it doesn’t matter what Fred does he will be portrayed as walking for the GOP nomination and ‘his heart isn’t in it’. Its in the media file and they will use it no matter how wrong it is. Like the Jena 6 and everything else.

FRed did fine. I especially liked his assault on the failed education system controlled by “unions and the NEA”....calling it as it IS!
Iowan’s may surprise the MSM and all the DNC-controlled pundits who are sworn to ignore the REAL threat to a Hildabeast win (FRed and Duncan Hunter).
Frank Luntz just took a moment to point out this exchange as “that moment” that we all remember. It was very popular with his focus group, and he added that “some in the group applauded even though they weren’t live in Iowa.”
It’s going to resonate.

Wanted to let everyone know that Fred’s response to not doing hand shows and not answering if he doesn’t get a minute made the headline story of our local radio news break. Fred was characterized as “leading a Republican revolt on stage” and “coming to life”. Need lots more of this.

The latest Rasmussen poll and CNN national polls have him at 10 points. The latest CBS News national poll has him at 7 points. He's trading lower than all other frontrunning GOP candidates - to include Paul - on InTrade. And he's dropping, not gaining.
Really. It is so over for his campaign. And playing Mister Crankypants in the debate today isn't going to help his image or his chances.

It is difficult to make news in one of these debates, because people have seen it all before. But Fred managed to do so.
I think everybody thought these “hand raising” questions were stupid and demeaning. Fred builds on that perception by putting an end to it.
And putting down the NEA is just the icing on the cake!
Way to go Fred. I was wandering by the break room and saw Alan Keyes on the stage. I didn’t even know he was running!
I’ll wait for some real votes to come in. All he has to do is survive Iowa and New Hampshire and get to South Carolina.

I would not worry anymore about Fred Thompson if I were advising Mitt Romney. Don’t even give him a moments thought, waste an ad or a mailer on him. Don’t spend another dime fighting against him.
Spiff, Mitt needs to really concentrate on Huckabee. I think all the energy he and his supporters have needs to be focused on defeating the Huckster...

Let’s be honest - northeastern liberals are going to vote for northeastern liberals in that primary.
Their little snit where they changed their primary date to make sure they will still be ‘first’ demonstrates to me (and many others) their need to make themselves more important than they are - which is just this side of irrelevant.
All ANYONE has to say, if asked about a poor NH showing when campaigning in places like SC and FL, is - “that’s New Hampshire, they think differently up there than we do out here in the real world.”

Polls mean crap. Ask John Kerry and Howard Dean. You better start getting used to seeing Thompson’s smiling face during the general election debate. He was the only man on the stage tonight.

Bill O’Reilly, like most everyone at Fox News, is following orders to puff up Giuliani and stomp on any threats to Rudy. That tells me that internal polls at FNC are telling Murdoch to “diss” and ignore Fred because he threatens Giuliani. Nothing else makes sense.
