PETA to Fred: Best Way to Fight Global Warming and Rising Health-Care Costs Is to Tax Meat
PETA ^ | December 20, 2007 | Lindsay Rajt

Posted on 12/23/2007 6:40:47 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Nashville, Tenn. - This week, PETA sent a letter to all the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates--including Sen. Fred Thompson--explaining that a 10-cent-per-pound "sin" tax on meat could go a long way in protecting the environment, reducing health-care costs, and adding dollars to the U.S. Treasury. PETA points out that meat is the leading cause of global warming--according to a 2006 United Nations report, the meat industry emits 40 percent more global-warming gases than all the cars, trucks, SUVs, Hummers, airplanes, and ships in the world combined--and has been conclusively linked to serious illnesses, including heart disease, some types of cancer, and diabetes. PETA also explains that the meat industry has been getting a free ride while producers of other products that are detrimental to human health and the environment--such as alcohol, tobacco, and gasoline--have been subject to sin taxes for years. PETA suggests to the candidates that they learn more about the issue at TaxMeat.com.

"The environmental and health problems caused by eating meat take a huge bite out of the U.S. budget," says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "Slapping a long-overdue tax on meat would help fight global warming and save countless lives--including animals'."

PETA members wearing pig costumes and armed with signs that read, "Tax Meat," will appear at campaign events in the early primary states.

Seems to me that we could simply offset the costs by treating PETAfreaks as a food source.

I’m completely opposed to taxing a staple protein source out of availability to society’s poorest members, but on pure economic theory PETA is indeed correct, returning pasture lands to fallow land or agricultural lands for consumer produce would significantly positively affect global warming.

PETA’s next demand would be a tax on all animal protein sources, to protect the fishes and mollusks and birds too.

But it is a purely fascist policy, the government would indeed own all protein sources, PETA is demanding implementation of the government policies in the dystopian novel Make Room, and the movie Soylent Green.

It’s insane, PETA should be right at home with the Republicans and Democrats and big Big Ag interests who are promoting producing ethanol out of food sources.

On the other hand, it would save my landscaping from the suburban deer infestation here. :P

Human caused global warming is bunk of course. But PETA is right, cattle expunge a LOT of greehouse gas and so if we are going to follow the moonbats down the global warming gloryhole, taxing meat makes as much sense as the other greenhouse gas taxes.

The whole thing is one ongoing moonbat cluster***K.

Gentlemen, there's one hell of a man named Fred Thompson, that in my book is a real American and he needs your help .

You should be ready to fight to defend the freedoms so many have given their all to protect and defend.  If you think you can sit back and ignore the danger to our nation or if you think you can just ignore it and it'll go away, well mister you're dead wrong.  Oh, and one other thing, these bastards we are fighting don't like you and never will like you.  They just want to kill you and your family for their Allah.  One other thing, some like ...what's his name ..Huckabuster or something like that...think if we will just talk with them we can make them our friends.  What a bunch of horse manure.

Now before it's too late, get up from that comfortable couch , pick up the phone and tell someone on the other end, you're not taking this crap anymore.  Call your state party officials, the NRA,, the Minute Men, or any other conservative group you can think of and tell them to get off their asses.  You want a real conservative for your commander and chief, no pansy ass liberals need apply.   Got it!

Me and some other real men are watching ,so don't screw it up

General George S. Patton Jr., Commanding

Get off you asses and get to work for Fred.

PETA to Fred: Best Way to Fight Global Warming and Rising Health-Care Costs Is to Tax Meat

How about this, the government will pledge $1,000,000 to an anti-global warming organization of their choice for the corpse of each PETA member who pledges to commit suicide for the welfare of the planet and goes through with it. I'm betting there won't be many takers.

They should join us in eating as many of the cows as possible. I’ve been trying my best my whole life but I’m just one man!

returning pasture lands to fallow land or agricultural lands for consumer produce would significantly positively affect global warming.

You are assuming that global warming is man made and therefore can be affected by actions man takes. You are also assuming, not only that man's actions could make changes to climate but that those changes would be positive.

There's a whole lot of assuming going on. Al will be proud.

In any event I don't accept your premise, nor PETA's, that returning lands to fallow would make any climate changes what so ever.

I’d dearly love to see Fred make a response video to this like he did to Michael Moore. Something ending with “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” or something like that

Returning pasture lands to agricultural land WILL SPEED UP GLOBAL WARMING.

Pasture lands are a CARBON SINK. About 0.3 tonnes of CO2 are sequestered in each acre of grass land each year.

When those pasture lands are re-cultivated, all that CO2 sequestered in the top 1 foot of the soil (over dozens of years) is released to the atmosphere within a few years.

And cows do not cause global warming through their methane farts. Because the methane concentration in the atmosphere has stablized and is no longer increasing (it might actually be decreasing.)

So cows are contributing zero to the zero increase in methane. Pasture lands are sinking 100 megatonnes of CO2 each year in the US.

PETA is 100% wrong.

PETA is 100% wrong.

Being wrong doesn't stop a good lefty. PETA has an agenda and they "mean well" and that's all that counts. Besides liberals never think what they are doing is wrong (even when the evidence shows them a poor outcome) they just think that they haven't done enough of it yet.

So PETA wants to tax cow farts.

How novel....

I wonder if these liberal morons (I know that is being redundant) realize if farmers are not allowed to raise and sell livestock as food for human consumption, livestock as we know them will disappear....

Cows, pigs, goats, chickens, etc., all gone, because they are DOMESTICATED animals, meaning THEY cannot survive in the wild....

So, in reality, PETA is advocating the extinction of millions of animals....

That’s going to be harsh on the cattle producing countries. But, it involves about 5% of the world’s population so won’t do much more than generate some more paperwork.

explaining that a 10-cent-per-pound "sin" tax on meat could go a long way in protecting the environment, reducing health-care costs, and adding dollars to the U.S. Treasury.

The socialist freaks haven't figured it out yet, but if they really want everyone as equal as possible with penalties for those most fortunate then they need a "beauty tax".

Our masters could evaluate the appearance of every person and then tax those deemed to be the most attractive since they have an "unfair advantage" in life.

The next time you hear someone prattle on about "social justice" think about what that could really mean.

:-(

Yep....I believe them. First they'll tax charcoal and propane for cooking purposes, BBQ grills as luxury items and then tax the entree.
