The Minnesota Public Radio News/Humphrey Institute Poll indicates DFL Senate candidate Al Franken poses more of a re-election threat to Republican Sen. Norm Coleman than any of the other DFL candidates.
The poll indicates that if the election were today Coleman and Franken would be in a statistical dead heat.
The poll took the pulse of 917 Minnesota residents over a one- week period that ended Sunday. It shows Coleman 5 points ahead of DFLer Mike Ciresi, and gives Coleman double-digit leads over Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer and Jim Cohen who dropped out of the race Friday.
University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs Professor Lawrence Jacobs, who directed the poll, said "We were very surprised by how far ahead Al Franken is of Mike Ciresi and the rest of the campaign."
Jacobs said more than one-third of those polled rated the economy and jobs as the two most important campaign issues, followed distantly by Iraq and health care. Among those polled, Franken beat Coleman on all three issues.

It's interesting to note that although Ciresi's campaign claims that he's the electable alternative to Franken, his campaign trails Coleman by a larger margin.
I know that Coleman's research staffers have been accumulating a wealth of info on Franken (and trust me, there's a lot of it) and they plan on releasing it at various times during the campaign. They want to show voters that Franken is not Senate material.

That doesn't bode well for Franken IMO.
If Franken's little glory pieces are ever scrutinized in any meaningful way, his "radio political commentator" on the failed Air America, his 4 USO tours... two of which he was booed by the military folks in the crowd, his socialist health care system that cannot be paid for without doubling State taxes, and his kowtowing to the Teachers Union "special interest group" will pretty much sink him.
“...this news is a little alarming.”
Nothing....absolutely nothing in Minnesota politics shocks or surprises me anymore!! Add that to the fact that politics in America has changed to pop-politics, I’m waiting to hear that Louie Anderson will be running in the next Governor’s election.

Don’t know that I’m all that surprised. Frankenstein seems to me to be the perfect “anti-Republican. I’m not surprised he is polling higher.
We need to hold seats. Rino or not. And while I don’t like Mccain he could certainly help Coleman out if he’s the nominee.
Coleman endorsed Rudy so look for Mccain to have it in for him.

The more anti-administration feeling there is by November, the worse it will be for Coleman.
Now he’s free to endorse Mcnutty.
