Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), an opponent of the war in Iraq, is in a statistical tie with primary challenger Joe McLaughlin, according to a poll released Tuesday by McLaughlin’s campaign.

The poll, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, shows Jones leading McLaughlin 43-41, with 5 percent supporting another candidate and 11 percent undecided.

Forty-eight percent of voters said it was time for someone new in the congressional seat, while 46 percent said Jones deserves reelection.

The poll surveyed 500 likely voters using an automated method licensed by Rasmussen Reports.

Jones is good on most of the issues, but has spoken out against the Iraq War.

Well that is certainly good news. As far as I can tell, he is not running ads in any Greenville market, although Walter Jones has been going pretty heavy for a while. Jones really aggravated a lot of people with his across-the-aisle reaching Iraq related votes, and I really hope he pays. This is going to be a primary vote that I will enjoy casting - unfortunately the only one.

Walter Jones hasn’t merely spoken out against the Iraq War (which many others have done), he has voted to cut and run and to deny funding for our troops. While he’s solid on social issues, I hope that McLaughlin sends him packing.

Wally needs to go. We need to dump Jimmy Duncan in my state, too. No Republican has stepped up to challenge him, though. :-\
