Schaefer says she may jump into (GA) 10th District race

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun may be picking up another opponent in the Republican primary this July.

State Sen. Nancy Schaefer (R-Turnerville) just told us that she’ll decide “in the next few days” whether to enter the race.

This is important because it would force a three-way geographic split in the 10th District congressional contest. Broun hails from Athens. House Majority Whip Barry Fleming, who announced last summer, draws his support from Augusta.

Schaefer currently represents northeast Georgia, which provided Broun with much of his surprise margin of victory in last year’s special election to replace the late Charlie Norwood.

Schaefer also does extremely well among conservative Christians, another point of support for Broun.

“We’ve had a poll run. We have quite a large group that has asked me to run on several occasions,” Schaefer said.

And the poll? “It was pretty favorable,” she said.

This could be a key race. Paul Broun has done poorly in fundraising so far. Too bad, as we need more Republican officeholders with a Libertarian perspective.

I see no reason to dump Broun, he was just elected. Let the man do his job. Does this woman have a reason for wanting to go to Congress other than to enhance her resume ?

Broun is seen as not being a real Republican, but a Libertarian imposter. Also, Broun already has serious primary opposition in state Representative Barry Fleming.

As long as he doesn’t go all Ron Paul on us, I don’t see a problem with the doctor (but I’ll admit I haven’t been paying close attention to his record). Frankly, we could use with a lot more anti-establishment Republicans, anyhow.

We could. Too bad there’s no one challenging anti-war moonbat Steve Latoilette in Ohio. Also, I hope the Schaefer-Broun primary doesn’t split the party.

We don’t have anyone challenging Duncan in my state (TN-2), either, and he needs to go. It’s unlikely we’d lose it to a Dem, and it holds the record of being the longest anti-Democrat voting district in the nation (a Democrat last won the House race in 1850 — not a typo).

It’s official, Nancy Schaefer is running for Congress.
