Boom! McCain hits one out of the park. McCain will lock down a lot of conservatives with this one. Fred knows exactly what he is doing and as long as McCain follows his advice, there will be no Harriet Miers, David Souters, or Anthony Kennedys coming out of a McCain administration.

But it will also truly depend upon the political makeup of the next U.S. Senate. Next term, if there are truly enough of a majority of socialistic leaning Senators over the total number of conservative Senators, then the political left will succeed in rejecting any to all conservative choices for any judicial vacancies.
In a McCain administration, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson would play a dominant role in selecting Supreme Court nominees and other judicial appointments, sources close to the McCain campaign and to Thompson tell us.
Between this and the drilling thing, I am almost willing to lie to myself about McCain being worthy of my vote......now lets see a conservative VP and I will put Joe Isuzu to shame.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Great news. Now what is McCain going to say or do to piss us off again?
Remember that every non-vote for McCain essentially puts Obama up one more. That should persuade you.
Pick yourself, Fred.
With 50 or more marx-o-crats in the Senate, McCain won’t be able to get anyone thru who even knows how to spell “conservative”.
Stop being so negative...I’d rather them tie it up and have nobody on that court than have any of Obama’s picks.
A sop to conservatives? Oh, goody. let’s all hop on board./s/
First, I don’t believe anything McLoser says. Mr. Global Warming Comprehensive Immigration Reform can say anything he wants. He never means it.
Second, Fred can select til the cows come home. If the Senate doesn’t confirm, it doesn’t matter who McCain or Thompson “select”.
And your solution is? Or do you just want to whine?
“Id rather them tie it up and have nobody on that court than have any of Obamas picks.”
Good point.
But, it is nice to see John McCain try to appeal to conservatives instead playing to his base.
Yeah, that's the ticket.......
That's what I hate about our election system. A majority/runoff system (run state-by-state due to the Electoral College), as opposed to our plurality system, would work wonders for voters by doing away with the 3rd-party-is-a-vote-for-Obama trap.
Let's not forget that McQueeg is a maverick.
The solution is to dump the John at the Convention.
Here’s a solution:
Romney/Santorum—by the convention. What’s yours?
Stay with this loon and lose by a landslide?
After the Wednesday night soiree with Hispanics in Chicago, what reason is there to believe this man on anything?
Because he is not Obama?
Between his belief in global warming, his stated goal to give us Comprehensive Immigrationn Reform(but don’t tell the white people—just between us Spanish speakers, OK?) and his johnny mclain come lately hodepodge solutions on enrgy, what country will there be left to save from Obama, who believes the same thing?
Think McQueeg is going to convince a majority of Americans to vote Republican when he cannot even articulate why? That he will be able to disassociate himself from “the third term of President Bush” as the media template hardens into place?
With each passing day, McJerk paints himself into a corner on something.
He is a mistake, period. If Obama is so dangerous, ask yourself, why the GOP is running this guy against him?
With McLoser, get ready to say President Obama on Jan. 20, 2009.
Can’t help it if you think the truth is a whine.
See post #19 for a real ticket.
Is it legal for the Senate to hold up the nominations all the way to the end of a Presidency, just to wait until the majority gets who they want as President? (just wondering)
Well it won’t matter if the Dem Senate rejects McCain’s picks if the leftists are the ones to retire from the Senate. Who cares if the SC has fewer members as long as there is a majority of originalists on the panel?
Amen, brother. It’s our only hope.
After the convention, I won’t try to push for another solution. But until then there is yet hope for our country.
That being said, you are dealing with a full bore Marxist in Obama.......one who will rip everything away, spit out the US and make us over in the image of Cuba/Venezuela. He will give you judges like fuzzy Ginsburg, "nationalize" most of our industry, take your guns away, rob you of your assets, give over Iraq and everything else to the Islamists, and that's just for starters. Oh yeah, he will smile as he does it.
If you want that, just keep on squawking, all the way to the bitter end.
Let me be clearer—amnesty, cap and trade, no energy policy—with those three things in place you have accomplished Marxism in America.Because America will be no longer.
McCain is for the first two wholeheartedly, and out to lunch trying to make up his mind on number three.
Worrying about nationalizing oil industry assets? McCain thinks the government should set the limit on oil industry profits. So the difference would be what?
No thanks.
And before Obama gets to the end of your “list”, if Americans don’t exercise their option in the foreword of the Declaration of Independence by that time, they deserve to be in chains.
“Because he is not Obama?”
Not being a communist racist grandma-abusing Chicago pol is a major qualification. In fact I’d even vote for Harriet Meiers if she were the GOP candidate!
You are truly a fool. Enjoy the workers paradise, moron.
There is Marxist Obama and there won’t be a next time to voet.
McCain, at least knows who the enemy is and believes in winning the war against the IslamOfascists.
Conservative judges, for the 2nd amend, etc.
and then there is this clown
Bob Barr while at USC in 1967 joined the Young Democrats of America, and rallied against the Vietnam War.
His parents disapproved, and threatened to cut off financial support if he continued his “flaming liberal” activities
On the Colbert Report on June 4, 2008, Barr confirmed that he now supports ending marijuana prohibition, as well as the War on Drugs
At the 2008 Libertarian National Convention, he apologized for the part of the Defense of Marriage Act which prevents the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages ( Barr supports same sex marriage)
Barr has called for withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, leaving no permanent military bases.
A press release from Barr’s presidential campaign stated: “The next president should commit to a speedy and complete withdrawal from Iraq, and tell the Iraqi people that the U.S. troops will be going home.
Barr Does Not support the Patriot Act which has kept us from further attacks since 9/11
Barr has been a vocal opponent of President George W. Bush’s claim of authorization to wiretap transnational phone calls without individual judicial license. (Another favorite of the left.)
More recently, Barr has become a prominent member of the American Civil Liberties Union, sometimes doing paid consulting on privacy issues.
Barr had acquiesced to his then-wife having an abortion in 1983. He had also invoked a legal privilege during his 1985 divorce proceeding so he could refuse to answer questions on whether he’d cheated on his second wife with the woman who is now his third.”
Thanks. Romney has executive experience, and is a recent convert to conservative values. Santorum is much more a conservative. Both would be excellent speakers against Obama and Obama’s VP in debates and in town hall meetings.
I believe it is a ticket that could ignite conservatives, Republicans AND independents.
Yes, I argue against McCain, because I can see the train wreck that is about to occur in the general election. McQueeg is perceived as the old fart evil Republican extension of President Bush, and the media is hardening that template against him while giving Obama a pass. He is a weak candidate because his positions are not that much different from Obama on the key issues of our time.
I stayed on the topic without resorting to calling you names, which is against the rules of this forum.
You can attack my ideas without resorting to personal attacks.
You know where I stand. Skip over my posts next time. You are not forced to read them.
Yay!! It’s Fred!! It’s so good to see him back.
The No 1 issue is the war for our lives.
Obama and McCain are on opposit ends of that
same with 2nd amend, judges, pro life, etc.
Say what you want, but wishing doesn’t make it so.
You weren't forced to read that either.
why always glass half empty? The vacancies can remain vacant...
Great! Just Great TomGuy!
Why did you have to spoil the McKoolaid party with that strong and sobering dose of Reality Stew, you know, the kind that sticks to ribs and leaves no lingering doubt.
The true facts always screw things up. Particularly when the GOP candidate only has empty promises and no solid Conservative record to back them. Just more promises and words that his supporters hope to hear.
That would be great. He should make a list and pick the bottom candidate to go up to the Judiciary Cmte. When they rule out one, he should send the next one up, always working up the list. The key is to not back down. Every candidate gets more conservative. If none of them work out, heck, that would leave just him, wouldn’t it?
I agree that the WOT is the number one issue for America.
That’s why comprehensive immigration reform, which McCain is now on record with as a definite “go” in 2009, is so dangerous. There will be no fence and 20 million people will obtain an amnesty without us knowing who the heck they are, or what their criminal background is.
That one instance of failing to protect our country can bring us the terrorist calamity we all dread. That brings the war here on our doorstep.
No one in our government can assure us terrorists aren’t getting through as we speak.
You can believe the Manchurian Candidate. I cannot, and have not since he turned his back on his fellow Vietnam POWs/MIA in 1992 with that traitor John Kerry. That showed me the man he really is. Since 2000, he has especially been a disloyal, backstabbing fair whether Republican and so-called maverick who could not be relied on for anything. I haven’t seen anything since his “coronation” that makes me think differently about him. I only scratch my head and ask how the heck did this happen.
Until the convention anoints him, there is time to get a better horse in the race. Out of the starting gate, he is already a long shot.
Sorry that we disagree on this candidate, but at least you have been very civil.
No thanks. We’d just be trading in one liberal for another with Willard.
And its a superficial thing to harp on “charisma”, but heck, I’ll do it. McQueeg has none. Romney has it in spades. You’re right. He’s not conservative, but there’s no denying his experience and his ability to get things done. Santorum, there’s no doubt that he’s conservative. That ticket sounds great.
I honestly cannot stand McQueeg’s voice and the way he speaks. If it comes to debates between him and 0bama, 0bama will wipe the floor with him.
I above anyone on this thread knows first hand about the immiration issues.
I live 15 miles from the largest and busiest border crossing in the world, San Diego - Tijuana, Mexico.
It was my first choice, one of our 5 San Diego congressmen, Duncan Hunter who is the author of the
border fence bill and in the lead with other border issues.
Since some folks didn’t want the adult conervative with the most experience with Military, National Security, and border issues for over 27 yrs, we have McCain.
I am making the best of it as I don’t want Marxist Obama, if you think Obama will be better on the border issues, I have a bridge to sell you.
Keep the bridge—I’m sure someone else will want to buy it.
I didn’t say Obama would be better than McCain on immigration.
I said he would be no different than McCain on the issue.
And yes, I gathered from your screen name that you are in the thick of it. San Diego is a beautiful place.
I once spent 15 minutes on the Mexican side of the San Ysidro border crossing. It was all I could take before I came back across the border into America.
But Ginsberg and Stevens can’t hold out much longer. She’s got cancer, I think, and they’re both just real old. If one or both of them croaks during the McCain administration, the Senate has to confirm someone.
There will be many republicans pushing McCain from his position and he has moved some already.
With Obama, it will be far worse re the border and illegals.
Also McCain has two condos here, his youngest son is based here in the Marines so he has a clue and will get further
views on this.
Janice Rogers Brown on the Supremes!!!!!!!
MCCain has not moved from his position—that’s what was revealed on Wednesday night in Chicago. That’s the problem. He won’t be moved. And most Republicans were ready to vote for this in 2007 until the American people rose up and scared them sh#tless. MccAin has not gotten the message, or refuses to. Both equally bad signs.
I have to turn in, being on the East Coast. It has been nice talking to you. Take care.
How well did Santorum do in his Senate re-election in PA? Good choice!
