London Times: "Spectacular Victory" Against Al-Qaeda

For today's news on the war on terror, we turn to Britain since the America media may never, under any circumstances, report any story containing the word "victory", "win" or "accomplish(ed)". The Times of London is reporting on a "spectacular victory" against al-Qaeda in Iraq. After being forced from its strongholds in the west and centre of Iraq in the past two years, Al-Qaeda’s dwindling band of fighters has made a defiant “last stand” in the northern city of Mosul. A huge operation to crush the 1,200 fighters who remained from a terrorist force once estimated at more than 12,000 began on May 10. Operation Lion’s Roar, in which the Iraqi army combined forces with the Americans’ 3rd Armoured Cavalry Regiment, has already resulted in the death of Abu Khalaf, the Al-Qaeda leader, and the capture of more than 1,000 suspects. That's right. The surge has dwindled a force of over 12,000 terrorists into a rag-tag group of 1,200 hold outs hiding in Mosul in what will likely be the last stand of al-Qaeda in that country. And all thanks to a surge that Democrats like Harry Reid had declared a failure. A surge that has now produced the lowest casualty numbers since the beginning of the war in 2003 and has made it possible to satisfy 15 of the 18 benchmarks set for Iraq...

Supporting the “Iraq as Roach Motel for Al Quaeda” analogy I made years ago. And now with the Supreme Court’s blessing we can kill every last one of the bastards on the battlefield lest they be subjected to the horrors of Gitmo.

London Times: “Spectacular Victory” Against Al-Qaeda:

‘PM says ‘Muslims will let us keep our system of laws - for now, if we pay the jizzya - We have achieved peace in our time!’

The PM was shown waving a piece of paper that some Muslim terrorist (oops, ‘cleric’) had scribbled on...

When the Soviets invaded Afghanistan thousands of Muslims from all over but mostly from Arab countries poured into help the Afghanis -- even if it were only for a few days at a time and even if the support was non-combat aid for civilians.

They even had a popular magazine, Jihad, that raised money and recruited here in the States and many other countries.

I don't recall Afghanistan of 1980, was it any more Islamic than Iraq under Saddam?

One account from 1980 says "Afghanistan isn't even a nation . . . The country has long been inhabited by many tribes that jealously guard their independence." The people are Muslims but so are the Iraqis.

Why wouldn't jihadists do the same for Iraq? They did. Wasn't that the plan?

And what a deal! No need to publish a magazine to rally support for their side against the Americans -- they had the American MSM!

Eventually, the Supreme Court decision will render all the troops potential suspects in murder and assault trials or use-of-unnecessary-force as US criminal law comes to be applied to all facets of warfare. You can’t just go out and shoot enemy combatants on the battlefield. You have to individually arrest them, read them their mirandas, and take them before judges for bail hearings, etc. The Court has abolished War with Boumedienne. The Army can be disbanded. It is all police and FBI work now.
