Sarah Palin was virtually unknown around the country up until a few weeks ago but she is NOW a household name and many Republicans in Monterey County believe that Palin is responsible for revolutionizing the party.
David Finkelstein resident of Salinas said "I think her stand right or wrong she is honest and is comfortable with her position"
The Monterey Republican Party has offices in Salinas but had to open another location in Seaside in order to meet the demands of GOP supporters in the area. Supporters are coming out of the woodwork.
Katherine Dolbec of the Monterey County Republican Party said that they "had a huge outcry of democrats and women. People that you wouldn't even expect because this is such a unique time in history, to have a women on the ticket people are excited about it and want to be more involved and vocal"
In Monterey Republicans proudly displayed their yard signs in support of McCain and Palin.
Richard Peckham resident of Monterey "I'm not ashamed of who I am, and who I am recommending for office. A lot of people don't want to be the odd man out but I'm proud and I hope it does some good."
Palin was scheduled to hold a fundraising luncheon in Monterey next week. Campaign officials say that was cancelled to allow her time to prepare for an October debate with Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden.
I want to hear the words; "California is in play"...
I live in Monterey County. I am accustomed to being around people who, because they like me, assume that I loathe Republicans. I work in a very large, busy office and the day that George Bush won, you could have heard a pin drop in that otherwise noisy hub at work. A funereal calm followed, and was sometimes stirred up to a fever pitch by rumors (from Democratic Underground) that GOre was about to make his move, then Kerry...yes Kerry is about to set all wrongs to right again. So, I was stunned to read this article, stunned.......
Gov. Palin is the most popular governor in our nation (based on her poll #’s in Alaska), so as folks get to know her, it’s not surprising that she is the most popular politician in the nation.
