Republicans Counter With New Poll in Louisiana Race
Roll Call ^ | November 12, 2008 | John McArdle

Contradicting polling numbers released earlier this week by his Democratic opponent, physician John Fleming (R) put out a new survey that showed him ahead by 5 points in Louisiana’s open 4th district race.

The survey showed Fleming led Caddo Parish District Attorney Paul Carmouche (D) 48 percent to 43 percent, with 8 percent undecided. The poll of 140 likely voters was conducted for Fleming’s campaign by Multi-Quest International and was taken Nov. 6-8. It had a 6-point margin of error.

The election to decide who will succeed retiring Rep. Jim McCrery (R) will take place on Dec. 6 after the Bayou State was forced to move back its primary election calendar after an unusually active hurricane season this year.

Flemings’ new poll did not include the Independent candidates who will be on the December ballot. Those two Independents combined for 4 percent of the vote in a survey released by Carmouche on Monday. The Democratic survey showed Carmouche ahead by 10 points, with 16 percent undecided.

This is the December 6 runoff that was scheduled when the primary was scaled back. Losing another House seat will give the Drive-By Media even more to crow about.

I believe that McCain carried the LA-04 handsomely, and I doubt that Whitey Carmouche will be able to get the large black turnout in Shreveport that allowed Obama to carry Caddo Parish. If we lose this one it will be due to the traditional sour grapes among Republican sore losers who’d rather see the Democrat win than someone other than the Republican they supported in the primary (which is pretty much the only way we lose House and Senate seats in Louisiana).

A poll of 140 LVs. That’s the best they can come up with?

Yeah, and that’s how we lost LA-03 in 2004, LA-05 in 2002, and to some degree LA-06 earlier this year. Oh boy, does LA-04 have a bad pattern to break.

Makes me glad I live in LA-01, although I still had to endure Jim Harlan’s dumb as dirt commericals.
