Greene County prosecutor Darrell Moore says he is running for a southwest Missouri congressional seat.
Moore joins an already crowded field of Republicans seeking to replace Rep. Roy Blunt, who is running for Senate in 2010.
While announcing his candidacy Thursday, Moore said he would make balancing the federal budget his top priority. He also stressed health care reform, stabilizing Social Security and bolstering national security.
Moore, of Springfield, has served as Greene County prosecutor since 1999.
Other Republicans who already have declared their candidacy are state Sen. Jack Goodman of Mount Vernon, Springfield auctioneer Billy Long and Ozarks Technical College professor Jeff Wisdom.

This district has a historic rivalry between the two major population centers, Springfield and Jasper. This has shown up in primary after primary, and it looks like it’ll happen again.
Jasper? You mean Joplin? The only Jasper I know of is in Arkansas.
I just know the guy as a prosecutor...anyone here know where all he stands, politically-conservative? coat tail rino or what?
Do these guys run in Urbana and Buffalo?
No. Urbana and Buffalo are in District 4. Ike Skelton’s district.
You’re correct, I meant Joplin. I was being rushed to a restaurant and hurriedly typed it in before logging off. It’s a Springfield vs. Joplin rivalry.
I’m sure he’s a strong conservative, and that the others are also. I expect it’ll be a regional rivalry, not ideological rivalry.
You got your answer. I wish he was running in the Buffalo/Urbana area! I’m sick of Ike Skelton!!
“Its a Springfield vs. Joplin rivalry.”
I guess I’ve missed that somehow. I’ve lived in both towns.
I can’t believe that area hasn’t put someone up that can beat Skelton. Southwest MO is pretty conservative and so is the area around Pettis County. I think once Skelton retires (he’s 77 years old and has been in office for 32 years) a Republican could take that district. Actually, a good Republican candidate could probably take it now. It’s time for him to go.
It’s past time for Skelton to go but there are alot of Democrats in this area, farmers, and Ike keeps the money coming.
Last time around I think it was, the GOP had a good candidate, young man name Connors, didn’t get too much support that I could see. I did what I could.
Missouri has a ton of “rural Democrats” who are completely clueless as to the direction of the national Democrats. My ex-inlaws fall into this category. Super nice people from NE Missouri, couldn’t say a bad word about them, but they vote for Democrats because they have always voted for Democrats. If I gave them a list of policy positions and didn’t label the parties, they’d never, ever vote for a Democrat. Fortunately, I turned my ex-wife into a conservative. She hasn’t voted Democrat in years. It’s amazing how people can see the light if you can just spend some time with them and politely educate them on things.

True. I’ve met a couple of those farmers in my time around here. Explained a few things, made a dent with one or two.
Ah, how about someone from Branson? Or better yet, Bronson.
