U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd has another Republican challenger: Former ambassador Tom Foley is entering the race. Foley is a businessman who served as U.S. ambassador to Ireland for about two years. In 2003 and 2004, he served as a U.S. government official in Iraq, overseeing businesses and developing a plan for reviving the private sector economy. For his efforts, he earned the Department of Defense distinguished public service award. Foley established a website, www.tomfoley2010.com .........

I suspect if Foley really knew what a primary was like, he would pass on this. Does an uppity guy like this wanna do 14 months of retail politics spread across 169 towns against 2 guys who are really into this stuff?
He strikes me as someone who wants to media events and not try to run from one picnic to the next in little podunk towns all summer ... and in the winter, more unpleasant.
Last January in the ice in 10 degree F weather, I went door-to-door in New Hampshire from 9a to 5p day after day ... I cannot picture this guy doing that and that is easy compared to being the guy giving the stump speech 12 times per day and shaking all those hands and small talk. Yeeeech!

Jon Meade Huntsman, Jr. (gee what a pompous name... especially the middle name, “Meade”) did in Utah, and he was a rich country-clubber elitist whose last “public service” was a brief stint at the end of the GHW Bush Administration as Ambassador to Singapore (what a rough assignment !). Of course, now the liberal RINO slimeball gets a reward by being sent to China... hopefully he’ll stay for good.
Huntsman ran an underdog campaign in a GOP primary in a blue state with no local GOP organization and no conserative infrastructure?
Has he ever dressed a chicken, shot a deer, driven a nail, welded a boiler, snaked a sewer line, raised up a son, met a payroll, beat up a bully, scored a touchdown, served in the military...?

Foley is an underdog to Simmons. I will be supporting Caliguiri.
Huntsman was in a primary race with a lot of people more qualified and experienced than he. It included the sitting Governor, Olene Walker, a well-respected Congressman (Jim Hansen), 2 State House Speakers (Nolan Karras & Marty Stephens) (actually 3, since Hansen had been a Speaker in the late ‘70s), and a Medical Company Exec (Fred Lampropoulos).
Oh, and I don’t use the red state/blue state post-2000 media newsspeak colors. Red is the leftist color, the color of the Socialist Democrat party. Blue is the proper color of Conservative parties, so when folks call Republicans “Red”, they’re aiding and abetting the cause of leftist propagandic disinformation and disassociation with the color that is inextricably linked with them. Commies ain’t called “Blues.” So, yeah, Utah IS a blue state... because it’s a Republican one.

Nolan Karras Republican 52,048 33.58%
That’s the primary, which is effectively the runoff. The fights occur at the party convention, and that’s where Huntsman barely edged Karras. I endorsed Jim Hansen prior to that.
in CT, the fight will be in AUG primary, not much focus on the convention for Foley. When you endorsed Hansen, did you get much press coverage of your endorsement?
i used to be on the email list for them. obviously, the Conn. experience in ‘91 is a case study in what we’re up against.

Oh, yeah, because I command the full attention of the media press corps. Seriously, I should emphasize I've endorsed no one in the CT race. I'd like to see it fully shake out. I'm not really a fan of ex-Congressman Rob Simmons, but it seems like he is potentially the strongest general election candidate (and he did take down the vile Sam Gejdenson, after he'd been written off as "undefeatable"). The downside is that if he wins, he'll likely join the Maine twins to be the most liberal GOP member of the Senate (although nowhere near as bad as the repulsive scumbag Lowell Weicker).
