Democrats have remained coy on the idea of new taxes, but Sen. Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria, told the Santa Cruz Sentinel last week that it is "not reasonable" for any legislator to rule out taxes . . .

I fear that Maldonado will pull an Arlen Specter and switch parties before he runs for statewide office again.

I'm guessing there's more than one dim who won't support a tax increase this time around.
Maldonado will be left out in the cold...swinging on a very weak branch.
