GUILLETTE: Some sunshine in Florida "Profile of Florida Senate Primary

On the surface, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist appears to be the rising star in the Sunshine State. Mr. Crist won a landslide election, maintains high approval ratings and was considered as a potential vice presidential choice by Republican nominee John McCain. In addition, he was even ranked the most "fiscally conservative governor in the country" by the Cato Institute - beating out even South Carolina's budget hawk Gov. Mark Sanford. Many Florida conservatives, however, have a very different hero - Marco Rubio.

Major RINO alert.

Unfortunately, he will probably win.

Some say he will win even if he comes out of the closet

Given the composition (decomposition?) of the RINO Party, coming out of the closet will enhance his chances.

The large county Florida Republican committee organizations have already issued written notices to the NSRC and the national comiitee that the nominee will be decided in the primary process and not in DC.

I attended a 2010 campaign kickoff meeting last week and Rubio addresses the meeting. Crist didn’t even bother to attend or even send someone to speak on his behalf. Rubio is very articulate (even made TOTUS jokes) and is a far better candidate and was very well received. The tone of the attendees was one of disgust for the DC establishment.

This is not an automatic for Charlie.

Rubio needs to tie the weirdo to his buddy Obama.

The weirdo needs to pay for his allegiance to Obama.

Crist gets Obama’s thanks on stimulus support

By Lesley Clark and Lucy Morgan, Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau

WASHINGTON — The White House amped up the pressure Tuesday to pass a giant economic stimulus package speedily, with President Obama dialing three Republican governors — including Florida’s Charlie Crist — to thank them for backing the measure.

But even as Obama spoke with Crist — along with Govs. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and M. Jodi Rell of Connecticut — Republican senators including Mel Martinez of Florida rolled out an alternative plan that narrows spending and focuses on tax breaks.

Crist was one of 19 governors — four Republicans and 15 Democrats — to sign a letter urging passage of Obama’s stimulus package. The president called the governor over the lunch hour to thank him.

“He wanted help with the stimulus package,” Crist said.

Crist, who has lobbied the Florida delegation on the issue, said he’d do all he could to see that the state gets its fair share.

“I’m happy to help,” Crist added.

The phone call was the first from the new president for Crist, though the governor said he talked to the Obamas at Saturday’s Alfalfa Club dinner in Washington.

The calls to the governors came as the Senate began debate on its version of the stimulus and as the administration sought to rally support for quick passage.

The proposal cleared the House last week with zero Republican support, but the administration is hoping to pick up some GOP backing in the Senate.

To make its case, the administration dispatched White House economic chief Larry Summers for a briefing with reporters from across the country, releasing the administration’s estimates for job creation, state-by-state, including as many as 218,000 jobs in Florida.

Crist has said repeatedly that the stimulus could alleviate some of the state’s budget woes by offsetting deeper cuts to education, health care and public safety.

The plan, the governors said in their letter, “represents a sound investment in our long-term economic interests.”

Martinez said he also talked to Obama by telephone, on Friday when the president called to thank him for voting for a bill to expand a children’s health insurance program.

Martinez said Obama expressed interest in seeing the details of the alternative stimulus bill he’s working on.

The GOP bill, which is about half the cost of the Democratic bill, calls for military and veterans spending, along with money for transportation projects and a $15,000 tax credit for home buyers, but eliminates most of the spending on education that is called for in Obama’s version.

“Education is viewed by many (senators) as a state issue, not a federal funding issue,” Martinez said. “We couldn’t get to consensus on that.

Crist wins the primary over conservatives cold dead bodies.

Of course, Rubio needs to go apoplectic at every opportunity and call this weird sissy son of a bitch out.

A "Civil" campaign is just not going to cut it.
