Try finding Chincoteague oysters in Arkansas. It almost doesn’t seem like Christmas without them.
BTW - I had family in Onancock, but I haven’t been to the shore since the mid 90’s. Do the ponies still swim the channel from Assateague every year? I have seen them swim several times, as well as I remember it is in July sometime.
I think so... my family sends me clips about stuff on the shore... and that being shut down by PETA or what not would be something they’d send.
I can remember being out on the water and buying crabs from the watermen as they headed in.
YES they still have the pony swim. Onancock is still a beautiful town.

I know nothing about 100th District Delegate Melody Scalley, but I am going to try my best to make it down to ESCC for this function. I have a difficult time saying anything against the incumbent Dem, except that he is a Dem. If nothing else, I would really like to meet Senator Cuccinelli.
Sorry for the lateness of this post but I just got home after dealing with a couple of 11 year olds seeing the Harry Potter movie. I will not discuss how uncomfortable and out of place I felt standing outside the theater on Main Street on Chincoteague at 10:30 at night.............

The pony swim is next Wednesday, the 29th.
I will be avoiding the Island for most of next week, although one of these years I do want to go over on Thursday for the auction. I’ve seen everything, but that.
3 years ago we watched them swim them back on Friday in a friend’s boat. That is the way to see the swim, in either direction. It was absolutely awesome.

Gabz, I can relate about staying off the island during pony penning week. Try getting a motor home pulling a boat to the campground on pony penning day, with 2 daughters, age 3 and 4 asking are we there yet? My wife, who rarely has even a glass of wine, said she finally understood the statement, “I need a drink.”-—JM
