Austin, TX, July 2009 - The Medina For Texas campaign, in an effort to bring about a restoration of accountability in government and to create new tethers insuring our elected officials serve the people, has launched an effort to place unprecedented provisions on the Republican Party primary ballot in March 2010. The campaign plans to gather signatures in support of six ballot initiatives at Tea Parties being held around the state this July 4th weekend.
"We Texans must demand accountability from Republican candidates. We are calling on all Texas Republicans to take personal responsibility and help us provide new guards for our future security, just as our Founding Fathers described in the Declaration of Independence," said Debra Medina, Republican Gubernatorial candidate.
Texas Election Code 172.088 provides that "voters by petition may require that a proposal to include a demand...for matter...in a political party's resolutions be submitted to a vote in the Party's general primary election by placement on the general primary election ballot."
"Voters are tired of the lack of accountability from candidates in office to those who elected them, and we have got to stop excusing that kind of behavior," Medina said. "Americans are demanding responsibility from government and We Texans will lead the way."
The ballot initiatives call on the Republican Party of Texas to require Republican candidates pledge to support or do no harm to Republican values as stated in the party platform in four areas: limited government spending, property rights, Texas sovereignty, and support of life. Two additional initatives call on the party to require transparency of a candidate's positions and to impose term limits.
Placing each initiative on the ballot requires signatures equal to 5% of the votes cast in the 2006 Republican primary for Governor. The Medina For Texas campaign will be out in full force to gather signatures, starting with the Texas Tea Parties held throughout the State from July 1-4.
"Our campaign promotes a return to individual freedom and limited government," Medina said. "By working together, We Texans can remain strong, free and prosperous, restore accountability to our government, and ensure our elected officials serve the people who elected them."

She’s definitely got the credentials and she’s not ‘Kinky’. ;o)
We’ll be watching.
A classic!
Any links to what she’s been doing up until now? I followed the link. Words are nice. What are her actions?
She first got involved in politics in the early 1990s, when she saw that local leaders were not honoring the pro-life principles that guide her beliefs. Now chairing the Republican Party of Wharton County, she took the Republican Party of Texas to court in 2008 over violations in how the state convention was run.
I'll ask that the person from whom the request to post this thread was received take on this question and provide some links for follow up if he/she wants to promote this candiate. I think he/she is just looking at Medina. I don't know if he/she is actually recommending her.
I felt Kinky was better than all the options LAST time and voted for him.
Republicans need to be republicans or they wont get our votes.
“The former Wharton County Republican chairman is presenting a third option in the GOP gubernatorial primary. Medina is a Ron Paul-style Republican.”

I’m intrigued by this candidacy. Rick Perry and Kay Kailey Hutchison are both pretty mediocre in terms of both ideology and accomplishments.
“
Debra on Illegal Immigration
Illegal Immigration is Illegal
Illegal immigration affects many aspects of our lives: jobs, health care, education, housing, and taxes to name a few. It also adversely affects the lives of those who come here illegally, as they are forced into an underground culture. Everyone is a victim. The most compassionate thing We Texans can do is stop illegal immigration.”
That’s a good start...I’m glad Texas has some alternatives to look at.
Texas has to know they have an alternative. Chances are, few have ever heard of Medina.
It would be nice to have a real alternative to Perry and Kay, but if this lady is a Paulbot, that’s a no-go.
Kinky is a liberal democrat. Don’t be fooled by his folksy BS.
You think she’s related to Medina Lake family?
I’d take her over either. She’s anti-illegals.
Even if she shares Paul’s views on the Middle East I don’t find it relevant here.
But it’s very doubtful she’ll move beyond the single digits in terms of support.
But face it. Kinky, KBH, and Gov. Goodhair. There is NO right decision. It's all bad.
Maybe Debra can do better. I'm headed back to Texas in a few weeks, and I'll be at one of her events to meet her. I'll make a decision shortly thereafter, on who I support for governor of Texas.
Hell. We had Ma Ferguson and Ma Richardson as governors. Deb could be worse? Or worse than KBH and Gov Goodhair?
I'd take some eccentrics from the Republic days before I'd take KBH or Goodhair.

No idea.
If you've never overthrown the status quo of a local government, it's worth your while to spend a few seasons learning local politics. It's a hoot.
Learn to support the candidates. Ask them what they need. Cash isn't always king. Sometimes, it is bodies to deliver handouts.
I did well bumping my local guy with coffees that I held at my house, putting up signs, and drumming up local support.
Never forget what REAL AMERICANS can do when we speak up.
Especially as a Texan.
We make stuff happen.
